This is a test; it is only a test. If it was real, it would contain some information

I have been unable to post a diary on LIA for some weeks now. At least one other blogger is having the same problem. This is a test-diary to see if my problem is solved.

Southern Republicans Have Seceded from Sanity

I didn't say that -- although I agree.  That's a direct quote from conservative columnist Kathleen Parker.  She's one of the one's printed on the right when my local paper does their "on the left" and "on the right" thing where they match up some milquetoast "liberal" writer against a (usually) raving conservative.

In 1966 [Pat] Buchanan and Richard Nixon were at the Wade Hampton Hotel in Columbia, S.C., where Nixon worked a crowd into a frenzy: "Buchanan recalls that the room was full of sweat, cigar smoke, and rage; the rhetoric, which was about patriotism and law and order, 'burned the paint off the walls.

BCA Gubernatorial Forum Recap

George Talbot of the Press-Register attended the BCA candidate forum last Saturday at Point Clear.  He shares his impressions of the 2010 gubernatorial field here.  It's well worth reading, not only for what is said, but for what is left unsaid.

Although there are clearly 8 candidates on stage, Talbot makes no mention of three of them: Republicans Robert Bentley and Bill Johnson or Democrat Ron Sparks.  Did they make no lasting impression or is it a case of "if you can't say something nice ...?"

The Cost of Doing Nothing on Health Care is Too High

Americans are already paying for health care.  We pay more than anyone else in the world for health care.  Problem is, even though we've scrimped and saved to keep paying the insurance premiums, too often the profit-obsessed insurance industry denies our claim.  Or drops us altogether when we get sick.  And if they decide whatever we have isn't covered by that "comprehensive health care policy" we've paid premiums on for half a lifetime, do they kindly refund our (obviously wasted) money?  No, they do not.  They move it over into their "obscene profits" column, leaving us high and dry.

Doing nothing has a cost.

Excessive Force? Shocking!

When FOX and ALTERNET agree - something's up!  This homeowner and his pregnant wife were tasered in their BACKYARD.  A man's home is his castle?  Not anymore.

Seems to me tasers just make it too easy for the cops to be brutal without the penalty of all the paperwork they endure for drawing a gun.

They aren't using them for life threatening situations - they still prefer a gun for that -(who wouldn't?) they use them to torture people who are simply a pain in the ass, or maybe don't speak English, or happen to be black :(

350+ taser deaths in the past ten years I've heard.
