Co-authors end book deal with ex-aide to Palin

From Bill White in Anchorage --

This just in from the Associated Press on Frank Bailey and his book:

A California publicist and two co-authors have terminated a book deal with a former aide of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

San Diego-based Releve Marketing and PR announced Tuesday it will no longer represent or co-author Frank Bailey’s upcoming book “Renegade: Sarah Palin’s Hatchet Man.”

Christiana Grace, company co-owner and one of the co-authors, says she can’t elaborate on the reasons for the termination. But she adds it was not a falling out with Bailey, her close friend since college.

Palin photographer thrilled with exposure

From Bill White in Anchorage --

John Keatley, whose photograph of Sarah Palin will adorn the cover of her memoir "Going Rogue," has blogged about all the attention the photo is getting.

Here's a sample:

The photo shoot only happened three weeks ago, so this is all still very new and exciting for me. After much planning and scheduling, I put together a crew and flew up to Alaska for six days to photograph the former governor. It was supposed to rain the entire week we were there, but we ended up getting blue skies and puffy white clouds the entire time. After a few days of scouting and prepping, I shot for three days straight. The last day we went to Hatcher Pass which holds a lot of meaning for Sarah.

Parnell hosts Juneau picnic to mend fences

From Bill White in Anchorage --

The Associated Press just moved this story. The picnic is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sandy Beach:

JUNEAU — Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell is hosting a picnic in Juneau.
The Friday afternoon event is seen as mending fences with the capital city and the governor's office.

There was a sometimes contentious relationship between former Gov. Sarah Palin and Juneau residents, some of whom felt she wanted to move the capital to Anchorage or her hometown of Wasilla.

She also rarely spent time in the governor's mansion in Juneau, preferring to live in Wasilla and work out of her Anchorage office.

Palin attacked over Juneteenth

From Bill White in Anchorage --

The Associated Press just moved this article by Anchorage reporter Rachel D'Oro:

Plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit against Gov. Sarah Palin asked a judge Friday to declare that she broke state law two years ago when she failed to issue a proclamation for a celebration commemorating the freeing of U.S. slaves.

Plaintiffs also sought a retroactive proclamation for the 2007 Juneteenth celebration from Palin, or — with her July 26 resignation looming — from the governor's office, said Gregory Charles Royal, a Washington, D.C., musician, who filed the suit in March.

Palin gets Sitting Duck Award

From Bill White in Anchorage --

The National Association of Newspaper Columnists has named Gov. Sarah Palin the winner of its Sitting Duck Award.

The group said the award is "an honor bestowed each year on the crème de la crème of the most ridiculed newsmakers in America."

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich finished second.

Winners in recent years include former President Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The association gives the award tongue in cheek, noting "The award’s title originates from the fact that these figures are easy targets — sitting ducks — during the most perilous of times a columnist can face: the slow news day. The award may be given to a person, animal, group or thing, but the point is to poke a little fun."

Claman to pay own way to Rhode Island conference

From Bill White in Anchorage –

Amid a stir over Anchorage’s Acting Mayor Matt Claman deciding to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Rhode Island this month just before he leaves office, Claman today decided to pay his own way rather than travel on the city’s dime.

Since becoming acting mayor in January, Claman has been busy slashing $17 million from this year’s city budget to address an unexpected revenue shortfall.

Claman said today: “Anchorage has much to gain from participating in these conferences. At the same time, I recognize that some people don’t believe that in these economic times the city should pay for me to travel to the conference.”
