Democrats finalize delegate list

Some went home disappointed, and some secured a ticket to Denver, but at the end of the night on Saturday the Arizona Democratic Party had its list. With more than 500 Democrats voting at their convention, a mix of elected officials and party activists joined the list drawn up in March at the Congressional District caucuses to complete the 67-delegate-strong Arizona delegation to the Democratic National Convention.

Sen. Hillary Clinton's primary win gained her 31 pledged delegates as opposed to the 25 Sen. Barack Obama earned, according to the proportional allocation system the Democrats employ. In addition the delegation includes 12 superdelegates, members of Congress, Gov. Janet Napolitano and party officials who are pledged to neither candidate and have no obligation to declare their preference until the convention.

However, the majority of Arizona superdelegates have pledged themselves to one candidate or the other. The list is:

FOR CLINTON:

Rep. Ed Pastor

Democratic National Committee member Janice C. Brunson

DNC member Joe Rios

DNC member Carolyn Warner

FOR OBAMA:

Gov. Janet Napolitano

Rep. Raul Grijalva

ADP 1st Vice Chair Charlene Fernandez

Those superdelegates who are currently unpledged are Reps. Gabrielle Giffords and Harry Mitchell; Attorney General Terry Goddard, who was selected as the add-on delegate at the ADP Convention; and Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Don Bivens.
