Bob Lord, who is challenging incumbent U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) for the 3rd Congressional District seat, released a "grassroots video" today highlighting Lord's stance on energy issues and attacking Shadegg for "blocking change."
"Arizona could power the entire country with solar energy," said Lord in the video, which portrays him standing in front of his Toyota Prius hybrid. "We just need leaders who are willing to invest in the future."
Lord also lambasted Shadegg for "taking thousands in campaign cash from Big Oil" and "consistently vot[ing] against renewable energy."
Records show that Shadegg, who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has taken far more in campaign contributions from the nuclear, coal and natural gas companies, as well as utilities, than oil companies this cycle. Shadegg's take from an oil political action committee is limited to Valero Energy Corporation PAC, which gave him $2,500.
The video is part of a week-long effort by the Lord campaign to focus on energy issues, according to campaign spokeswoman Sarah Muench. Wednesday night the campaign will hold a volunteer phone bank, during which energy issues will be discussed with voters. Also, Lord has penned an op-ed dealing with the energy crisis.
