A reporter over at AZcentral.com asked if we had phones because we had not talked to Sydney Hay about her 100K event discrepancy. When Benson talked to the Hay campaign I am guessing they did not tell him Evan Brown had placed many calls into the campaign unreturned.
This reporter also went on to defend the campaigns $100K event by adding up every dollar they raised during March and April and attributing it this one event. Now there is a stretch for you. Campaigns are known to add in donations for the week following an event to help boost the even numbers, but two months worth?
To assume that every dollar raised for a 2-month period is because of one event just doesn’t make logical sense. Then again maybe Hay did take off 2 months from fundraising. Second the campaign released the $100K event information right after the 1st quarter numbers had closed to offset the weak performance in the first quarter and to build momentum for fundraising in the second quarter. It was made clear that the $100K they were reporting was for a single event held on April 3rd.
This is why they teach you in campaign school 101 to not count dollars until they are in the door.
The reporter associated with this blog does have a phone, and he used it. We also have something else too, common sense.
