Reinhard to support troops by becoming one

As reported by PolitickerAZ.com's Wally Edge earlier, Tony Reinhard, the former spokesman for the Arizona Republican Party who recently moved to the executive director position at the Maricopa County Republican Party, is soon to leave that position as well. His new job: United States Army officer.

Reinhard announced he is going to be attending Officer Candidate School - basic and specialized training that will grant him a commission as a second lieutenant in the army. PolitickerAZ.com asked him why.

"I don't see how people can say 'I support the troops' - on the right or the left - without being willinging to get their skin in the game," said Reinhard.

He claimed he was impressed when, as a staffer for U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), he got the opportunity to get a taste of army life along with other Capitol Hill staffers during a special demonstration for Washington VIPs. It was his four visits to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, though, that convinced him to support the men and women in uniform by wearing that uniform himself.

Reinhard said he heads home to Denver before shipping out for basic training on August 12, and revealed that there's a skeleton rattling around in his family closet.

"Both my mother and brother are precinct captains for Obama, and have been pretty much since day one," said Reinhard. "My mother is the vice president of the local teachers union, so you can imagine the family discussions we have."

Reinhard said he is considering a run for office someday, but that the first thing he'd have to do is "keep my mother quiet."

"Can you beat that ad? 'Tony's so bad even his mother won't vote for him.'"
