Hermes gaining on Brock in fundraising

Ed Hermes, who is challenging Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock for his District 1 seat, announced he outraised his opponent three-to-one during the latest reporting period, raising $27,000 between June 1 and Aug. 13. That is compared with the less than $7,000 raised by Brock during the same period.

However, Hermes still trails Brock in cash on hand by a significant margin. As of the end of the reporting period, Hermes had $77,683 in his campaign coffers, while Brock had $112,184.

"We have a true grassroots operation, with nearly seven hundred donors to date and dozens of volunteers working on this campaign," said Hermes in the release from his campaign. "It's a sign that residents of the East Valley want a change at the County Board of Supervisors."

Devin Mauney, acting communications director for the campaign, said that the funds gave them enough for a strong direct mail and phone campaign, but "TV's going to be difficult," and the Hermes campaign doesn't expect to do much if any broadcast or cable advertising.

Fulton Brock did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
