Kirkpatrick: 'It feels great'

Newly minted 1st Congressional District Democratic nominee Ann Kirkpatrick issued a statement Tuesday declaring, "Tonight, we are one step closer to bringing real change to Washington and it feels great."

At latest count, Kirkpatrick had 47.6 percent of the vote, as compared with Mary Kim Titla, her next closest rival, who had 32.6 percent. As of this writing, 95.7 percent of totals had been reported.

"I grew up in Arizona and raised my family here," continued Kirkpatrick. "I love Arizona and I've had the honor of serving my home state as a prosecutor, teacher, community volunteer and state representative."

The release also touted Kirkpatrick's strength going into the general election, pointing to her large cash on hand total and the soon-to-be three campaign offices she's set up. The Kirkpatrick campaign said its grassroots network also offers a big advantage to her chances.

"I spent the past year talking with voters all across the district about the need for high-paying jobs in Arizona, affordable healthcare and a responsible energy plan that will relieve our pain at the pump and free us from Middle East oil," said Kirkpatrick. "In Congress, I will work to break the partisan gridlock and reach across party lines to cut taxes for middle class families."
