Lord comes out swinging with first AZ-3 ad

Bob Lord, the Democrat challenging U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) in the 3rd Congressional District, rolled out the first TV spot of the campaign Thursday, immediately going on the offensive against Shadegg on funding for troops in Iraq.

The ad, called "Vetting," started airing throughout the district Thursday morning, and slams Shadegg for "vot[ing] against benefits for the troops after voting himself nine pay raises."

"Maybe because Shadegg admits Washington changed him," says the announcer in the ad, using as its basis for the claim something Shadegg said on KTVK on March 3, where he said, "Instead of changing Washington, Washington changed us."
