Frank Rich on GOP Stalinist Purges

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

New York Times columnist Frank Rich has more on the GOP civil war in the NY-23 special election for Congress. There will be no "winner" in this race. The big loser, however, is the Republican Party. The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York:

[P]reposterous as it sounds, the real action migrated to New York’s 23rd, a rural Congressional district abutting Canada. That this pastoral setting could become a G.O.P. killing field, attracting an all-star cast of combatants led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, William Kristol and Newt Gingrich, is a premise out of a Depression-era screwball comedy. But such farces have become the norm for the conservative movement — whether the participants are dressing up in full “tea party” drag or not.

2009 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to President Barack Obama

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

From ITN World:

The Nobel Committee announced Friday that the annual peace prize was awarded to Barack Obama, just nine months into his presidency, “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” In Surprise, Nobel Peace Prize to Obama for Diplomacy:

The award cited in particular Mr. Obama’s effort to reduce the world’s nuclear arsenal. “He has created a new international climate,” the committee said.

The announcement stunned people from Norway to the White House. “There has been no discussion, nothing at all,” said Rahm Emanuel, the president’s chief of staff, in a brief telephone interview.

Dress for Redress

Barbara Boxer is on to us, chums. Last evening, California's junior senator appeared on MSNBC and averred that those of us protesting the Democrats' health care reform are far too well-dressed to be authentic.

Alas, I knew I should have left my spats and walking stick back at the manor.

"I saw some of the clips of people storming these townhall meetings," multi-millionaire Sen. Boxer told  multi-millionaire Chris Matthews.

"The last time I saw well-dressed people doing this, was when Al Gore asked me to go down to Florida when they were recounting the ballots, and I was confronted with the same type of people.

McCain lost, but the McMedia treats him like a winner

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Remember how the media treated Democrats who ran for president and lost? The beltway bloviators and the villagers in the media reduced them to cartoon characters to be ridiculed and mocked with derisive laughter. Al Gore, who actually won the popular vote in 2000, and John Kerry, who narrowly lost by losing Ohio, have become the modern standards for openly hostile and derisive treatment from the petulant villagers in the media.

So how has the media treated John McCain since he got his ass handed to him by the largest margin of victory in quite some time? I mean, McCain presents such a wealth of comedic material.

Tune in, TURN ON, and Drop out! Tonight!

Tune in to "The Truth" 104.1FM tonight at 8:00 for Jon Justice's Hour of Power protest to the so-called Earth Hour. That's right, the environmentalist whackos are going to turn off their lights for an hour to save the planet or something. A bunch of Luddite wannabes.

TURN ON your lights and any other appliances you might have a need or desire to use to make sure that the demand on the power grid is balanced. Might be a great time to bake a cake or roast a turkey, or toast up a loaf or two of bread. Also might be a good time to listen to all those great Led Zeppelin albums or that Up With People "People Are Energy" album--the former to enjoy, the latter to annoy any hard core Earth Hour purists in the dark home next door.

That’s Amore!

According to the Yellow Sheet, State Treasurer Dean Martina thinks that Attorney General Terry Goddard is conspiring against him!

Geez.

The conflict between the two is ongoing, but the current iteration is that Martin wants to be able to hire outside counsel, and Goddard has argued that this will lead to unnecessary expenses and could elevate disputes between state agencies into lawsuits. I’m betting that Martin is angry that Goddard’s office says “no” to his media stunts too often and he just wants to shop around for a lawyer who says “yes.”

Martin is now alleging that Goddard is trying to strong arm him by recruiting a candidate against him, one that works for his office.

Obama building AZ organization

DENVER -- The veil has been lifted a little on the Obama campaign's plans for Arizona, and they will all flow from state director Kelly Paisley.

It has been known for some time, but not advertised or even officially acknowledged, that a state director has been chosen for the efforts of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign in the Grand Canyon State.
