The Dempire Strikes Back - The Public Option Returns

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Over the weekend, Obama administration spokespersons including Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and President Obama himself, appeared to signal a a retreat on the public option.

There was gnashing of teeth and loud wailing from the base of the Democratic Party. The netroots went into action immediately to remind the President that he campaigned on the public option for health care reform.

On Saturday, the Arizona Democratic Party at its Summer meeting in Flagstaff, Arizona unanimously adopted a resolution in support of the public option. Healthcare-Final (2).doc The resolution was intended for Reps. Harry Mitchell and Ann Kirkpatrick who have not yet defined their positions.

DNC ads praise Reps. Giffords and Kirkpatrick for health care work

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Democratic National Committee's Organizing for America arm is launching radio spots praising two centrist Arizona congresswomen for "taking on the lobbyists and the special interests and standing up for us and our families" and "working every day to make sure we have affordable quality health care." AZ/DC Blog: DNC ads praise Giffords, Kirkpatrick for health-care work:

The ads give some support to Democratic Reps. Gabrielle Giffords and Ann Kirkpatrick as they talk to constituents about the ongoing health-care reform debate. The House last week adjourned for its August district work period and the Senate is expected to do the same at the end of this week.

Democratic Message for August Recess: Insurers Are the Enemy of Health Care Insurance Reform

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Who has endorsed President Obama's effort to reform health care insurance? Doctor associations, including the AMA (a surprising first), nurses associations, several business organizations and large employers (including Wal-Mart), and yes, even insurance-related organizations like AARP.

Who stands opposed to health care insurance reform? The health insurance monopolies (American Medical Association confirms health monopoly fears) who are getting fabulously wealthy off the broken system of health care insurance they designed. That's the benefit of monopolistic control. They are the middle-men, the paper pushers, the arbiters of whether you even qualify for health care insurance (pre-existing condition exclusions), the choice of doctors you are permitted to see (the provider must be a member of their preferred provider group), what procedures or treatments your doctor is permitted to provide you (including preventive health care and end of life care), and when your medical care becomes too expensive (an arbitrary lifetime maximum benefit), terminate your policy to protect their bottom-line profitability.

Rep. Grijalva: Public Option is Key to Health Care Reform

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Rep. Raul Grijalva and Rep. Mike Honda penned the following guest opinion on the Politico blog Public option is key to health reform:

Seventy-two percent of the American people support a robust public health insurance option that is available to everyone. A public option is good for our families, is good for the American economy and is supported by the American public. As Congress moves forward with health care reform legislation this summer, we must include in our final reform package a robust public option linked to an existing federal provider network — for example, the Medicare network.

The current system is broken.

A little birdie told us....

Taking a page from Barack Obama, John McCain and other pols who have used social media to broadcast their intentions, state Rep. Bill Konopnicki, R-Cyberspace, tells us via Twitter that he is thinking of giving U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick a run for her congressional seat next year.
Konopnicki toyed with the idea of a congressional run last year, when the seat held by Rick Renzi was up for grabs. Ultimately, he decided against it, citing the amount of money needed to run in the sprawling first congressional district and the apparent short supply of support from the GOP.
Kirkpatrick, a Democrat, went ...

And I couldn't bring myself to vote for that Nixon guy, either

So, I was having lunch with a friend of mine last week, and he was telling me how dissatisfied he was with our new congresscritter, Ann Kirkpatrick. In fact, he didn't like her before she ran for office, having been seriously turned off by her performance and attitude during a brief time when she was his attorney a few years ago.

Even so, he voted for her.

"I couldn't vote for Renzi," he told me. "He's so corrupt and he's on his way to jail."

True. I couldn't vote to return Rick Renzi to office, either. He is truly an impressive standout example of pure corruption in a sea of already festering pus.
