Dr. Eric Novack, right-wing shill

When one of the Neocon Washington Post's deans of conservative apologists, George Will, sings someone's praises you know something dark and evil is afoot. It merits a closer examination of the object of his praise. (Will's columns should come with a disclosure statement).

Both of Arizona's two major newspapers The Arizona Republic and the Arizona Daily Star published the Washington Post opinion from George Will today. George F. Will - Unlawful Heath Reform?

In 2006, long before there was an Obama administration determined to impose a command-and-control federal health-care system, a young orthopedic surgeon walked into the Goldwater Institute here with an idea.

Republican Born Again Deficit Virgins

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

John Perr is one of the better economics bloggers. He posted this piece at crooksandliars.com Born Again Deficit Virgins:

Everything you need to know about the descent of the conservative movement into a hypocritical caricature is illustrated by two of its proudest constituencies: Republican deficit hawks and so-called "born again virgins." Having already violated the moral strictures they claim to hold dearest, each now asks the American people to join them in pretending their sin never happened. But unlike a generation of Republican leaders who built a mountain of national debt for the United States, the secondary virgins only screwed themselves.

New study says second round of stimulus aid to the states will be necessary

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Earlier this year, the Accidental Governor and several Republican state legislators toyed with the idea of rejecting federal stimulus aid to the state. It was purely ideological grandstanding. Wiser heads prevailed and Arizona accepted the federal stimulus aid. The current budget deficit would have been far worse without the federal stimulus aid.

A new study says that a second round of federal stimulus aid is going to be required to rescue state governments from budget deficits for several years to come, and to prevent a "double-dip" recession. Obama warns of a 'double dip' recession (Obama said it's important to recognize that if the nation keeps adding to deficit spending through tax cuts or more stimulus spending, at some point people could lose confidence in the U.

Teabaggers get punk'd into supporting removal of European immigrants from U.S.

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Tea Party has moved into its next phase, opposition to immigration reform legislation soon to be introduced in the Congress. This past weekend, the nativist right-wingers at ALIPAC and the National Policy Institute organized a series of "Tea Parties Against Amnesty.

Things didn't go quite as the teabaggers planned at their rally at the state capitol building in St. Paul, Minnesota. Tea partiers punk’d into supporting removal of white people from US | Raw Story

A crowd of some 40 people showed up to the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol on Saturday to protest proposed reform of US immigration law.

ADL Special Reports: Rage Grows in America: Anti‑Government Conspiracies

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Anti-Defamation League has released the following ADL Special Reports: Rage Grows in America: Anti-Government Conspiracies

Introduction: A Year of Growing Animosity

Since the election of Barack Obama as president, a current of anti-government hostility has swept across the United States, creating a climate of fervor and activism with manifestations ranging from incivility in public forums to acts of intimidation and violence.

What characterizes this anti-government hostility is a shared belief that Obama and his administration actually pose a threat to the future of the United States. Some accuse Obama of plotting to bring socialism to the United States, while others claim he will bring about Nazism or fascism.

Sen. McNasty wants you to tear up your AARP membership card

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

KingofSpades posted this piece at Daily Kos: McCain finds his right-wing @ sshat. (with Poll)

McCain has really gone off the deep end now into wingnut country.  On Friday a few days ago at a townhall, he asked people to cut up their AARP membership cards.

* * *

As everyone knows, a week-and-a-half ago, the AARP, America's largest non-corporate lobby, endorsed H.R. 3962 because the bill was going to incrementally close the Medicare Part D "donut hole" and help prevent the elderly from being left out in the cold.  This didn't please congressional Republicans one bit and they tried to downplay it.

Conservatives' Crisis of Faith in the Constitution

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Conservatives would have you believe that they are the defenders of the Constitution. For many, this is bullshit.

In the days immediately following 9/11, many conservatives were quick to unquestioningly accept Dick Cheney's dark vision of the imperial presidency and the "unitary executive" theory under which neither coequal branch of the government had the power to check the executive branch during times of war. A cowardly Congress quickly abdicated its constitutional prerogatives and duties over war and spending to the president. Article III federal courts suddenly became deferential to overly broad presidential claims of national security and state secrets (with a few notable exceptions for which these judges were savaged by the conservative media).

10 years after the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Josh Kalven posts this timely piece as Congress considers new regulations for Wall Street -- let's begin with the repeal of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act and return to the Glass-Steagall Act. (I have previously discussed this topic.) Ten Years After The Repeal Of Glass-Steagall:

This weeks mark ten years since the enactment of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act. This piece of legislation repealed a Depression-era law known as Glass-Steagall, which segregated commercial and investment banks. By breaking down that wall, huge financial institutions were able to invest heavily in exotic "derivatives" that put the whole financial system -- not just their investors -- in peril.

IOKIYAR Health Insurance Coverage for Abortion Services

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

I have already taken to task the allegedly 40 anti-abortion conservative Democrats who threatened to scuttle the House health care bill if they did not get a vote on the Stupak-Pitts Amendment. House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) saysit actually netted about 10 votes for the Dems' health care reform bill. In other words, if push came to shove, 30 of those Dems would have voted for the final bill even if the Stupak amendment weren't included in the bill. Stupak Bought Dems 10 Votes | Talking Points Memo Still enough to scuttle the bill given the 220-215 vote, with one Republican in favor.
