Giffords’ Global Warming Heartburn

The Climate Change Bill, HR 2454, supported by Rep. Giffords on Friday with a “Yes” vote appears to be generating serious discomfort for some Democrats. And not because House Minority Leader, Rep. John Boehner colorfully likened this bill to manure.

An apparent defender of Giffords made extensive comments on yesterday’s post on this blog tried to downplay the bill as not really costing Arizonans that much at all.

However, in The Hill Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor, a Democrat, was quoted as saying that “yes” votes forced by House leadership on this bill could hurt Dems in conservative districts. His quote in The Hill: “A lot of people walked the plank on a bill that will never become law.

GOP Launches Second Rebranding In a Year

One of my favorite bloggers, Jon Perr at crooksandliars.com, reports today on the National Council for A New America GOP Launches Second Rebranding in a Year

[T]he GOP is launching a national rebranding effort. As part of its National Council for a New America, the Party of No will host public forums around the country for its rag-tag band of tea-bagging faithful and anyone who else wants to attend. As it turns out, this is the Republicans' second attempt at reinvention in 12 months.

A year ago, former Virginia Rep. Tom Davis warned that "the Republican brand is in the trash can," adding, "if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf.

Update: The Party of No (New Ideas)

From First Read:

Let’s be honest: Yesterday’s House Republican budget rollout was a P.R. disaster for the GOP. “Here it is, Mr. President” was the title of the GOP Leader blog touting that they had answered Obama’s dare to produce a budget. The problem -- their budget rollout didn’t contain any hard budget numbers or deficit projections. They say those hard numbers will come out next week. But now we learn that Reps. Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan objected to unveiling yesterday’s “blueprint,” but were overruled by Reps. John Boehner and Mike Pence. But bigger than any internal disagreements or any criticism about a lack of details is the fact that yesterday’s GOP non-announcement moved the attention away from the Obama-vs.

Reagan: The Great American Socialist

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

In a Truthout Perspective commentary, author Ravi Batra exposes Saint Ronnie Reagan for what he truly was, a Robin Hood in reverse Socialist who redistributed wealth from the poor and middle class to the most affluent Americans. Reagan: The Great American Socialist

Socialism has been much in the news for some months. Recently, some GOP stalwarts charged President Obama with preaching the heresy. John Boehner, the House minority leader, characterized Obama's stimulus package as, "one big down payment on a new American socialist experiment."

"Socialism" is a pejorative term in American politics and needs to be carefully examined. It usually refers to increased government control over the economy, or policies that promote the redistribution of wealth.

Just Who Is Running Things Over There?

Phil Gingrey got lots of plaudits yesterday for slapping right-wing talk shows yesterday:

I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

Of course, it wasn’t long afterward that Gingrey was forced to make an appology for offending Rush Limbaugh. Wow.

Shadegg: Congressional Republicans in 'deep trouble'

U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) had strong words for his fellow Republicans in the House, as he criticized the Republican Caucus for re-electing the current leadership and failing to learn the lessons of 2006 and this year.

"I think Republicans in congress should feel that they're in deep trouble," Shadegg told PolitickerAZ.com. "We've lost now 50 seats in two elections. Some of them just want to blame on President Bush - I think that is a mistake."

State, national GOP torch Dems over gas prices

Randy Pullen, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, is doing his part to make the case on the local level that the national Republicans are pushing in Congress: Democrats have failed to deliver on their promise to ease gasoline prices, and worse, are actively working to ensure they continue to climb.

Beginning on Tuesday with an assault on Democrats on several issues, an AZ GOP press release read:
