Update: Unemployment Benefits Extension Approved by Congress

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Arizona's Senator Obstruction, Jon Kyl, tied up the unemployment benefits extension bill in the U.S. Senate for weeks based upon petty partisanship and parliamentary maneuvering.

The bill bogged down in the Senate, first when senators from states with lower jobless rates demanded that the extension apply to all people exhausting their benefits, then with negotiations over adding the homebuyer and business tax credits. Then, Republicans held up floor action when Democrats blocked them from offering amendments on matters unrelated to the base bill.

"Opponents have put up obstacles at every turn to delay the passage of this bill, and as a result of these delaying tactics approximately 200,000 workers have lost their benefits in this last month," said Sen.

Crazy Franks loses it, Calls Obama an Enemy of Humanity

Out-of-touch Arizona Rep. Trent Franks (R-Gerrymanderville) has surfaced in a YouTube video in which he refers to President Barack Obama as an enemy of Humanity. This is coming from the guy who voted against SCHIP by the way. Apparently Crazy Franks is one of those people who stop supporting life at birth because it saves him a buck of two. Talk about an enemy of humanity!

This man will stop at nothing to gain the attention of those on the very far right side of the political spectrum. He even recently even held a press conference (along with Rep. John Shadegg) to highlight his blatant racism.

Reps. Trent Franks an John Shadegg engage in McCarthyism, religious bigotry againt Muslim-Americans

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The right-wing has exhibited a disturbing trend towards a new era of McCarthyism in recent years. But their latest craziness is religious bigotry and fear mongering against Muslim American citizens.

In the mind of right-wing conspiracy theory loving religious bigots, Muslim Americans are all spies for Islamo-fascism (a term fabricated by the right-wing and of no actual significance) and Islamic sleeper-cell terrorists who are conspiring to "Islamize" a "Christian" America. Seriously. I kid you not.

A quartet of Republican Congressmen, including Arizona's own Reps. Trent Franks and John Shadegg, convened a press conference this week to demand that the House Sergeant at Arms investigate the organization Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), because this advocacy organization does what every other advocacy organization does, but they do it while being Muslim.

Noble: Is Vernon Parker "the GOP answer to Obama?"

That's the question Republican political operative Sean Noble asks this week in his blog, Noble Thinking. Vernon Parker, mayor of Paradise Valley and a longtime GOP politico, is expected to formally announce his campaign for governor next week. It is believed that Parker would be the nation's first African-American to win election as governor.
Parker told the Insider last month that he's prepared to challenge Republican Gov. Jan Brewer in the 2010 election. Noble, the former chief-of-staff to GOP Congressman John Shadegg, writes:
"So now it gets interesting. With Parker's entrance into the race, the line has been crossed - that is, he is the first to ...

Your bank account is safe: debunking the latest wingnut lie

Zachary Roth at talkingpointsmemo.com debunks the latest wingnut lie about health care reform Your Bank Account Is Safe: Running Down The Latest Winger Health-Care Lie:

Another day, another metastasizing lie about health-care reform that needs debunking.

* * *

The hot new conservative health-care lie is that the bill will give the government direct access to Americans' bank accounts at any time, which, in some variations of the lie, will then be raided to finance the legislation.

The bank accounts lie has been proliferating in recent days. A questioner at Sen. Arlen Specter's townhall this morning asked about it. Rush Limbaugh, of course, has talked it up

Updated SWAG Re: GOP Primary for Governor in 2010

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

I have heard from reliable sources, but I have not been able to confirm, that John Munger will announce in the near future that he is a candidate for governor. Munger is a partner in the law firm of Munger Chadwick, PLC. Munger is a former State Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, a former member of the Republican National Committee, and former Pima County Republican Chairman. He has also served as president and member of the Arizona Board of Regents.

Munger recently established ImagineArizona, a political action committee, indicating that he has higher political ambitions.

Those of us who live in Tucson are familiar with Munger as the GOP talking head on the Arizona Illustrated (PBS) segment "Face Off," in which he squares off against Vince Rabago, former Pima County Democratic Party Chairman and a current vice chair of the Arizona Democratic Party.

SWAG Re: Arizona U.S. Senate Race in 2010

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Our incumbent "Senator Sore Loser," John McCain, has already announced that he will seek reelection to yet another term in the U.S. Senate in 2010. This elicited from the electorate a collective sigh, "why?"

After abandoning the citizens of Arizona for the past 10 years to pursue his quixotic quest to become president of the United States, only to run the most amateurish and self-destructive campaign in modern history (yes, even more than Dukakis), why run again? Just do everyone a favor and retire - go enjoy your remaining years at one of your eight, nine, ten homes, however many homes you own today.

SWAG Re: GOP Primary for Governor in 2010

Earlier this week Tedski over at Rum, Romanism and Rebellion speculated that our "Accidental Governor" Jan Brewer would not seek a four year term of her own. There are two schools of thought on this, one school says Jan will not run (I tend to believe this is coming from supporters of other candidates), and the other school says she definitely will run.

I tend to believe Jan will run. Jan Brewer is a career politician (since 1982), it's all she knows. Arizonans enacted term limits to prevent career politicians like Jan Brewer from hanging around too long. How's that been working out for ya?

Tedski says the GOP party establishment candidate for governor is Congressman Jeff Flake (aka the Earmark Slayer).

Here is that Youtube video clip:

Huge credit also needs to be given to Congressman Ron Paul for these predictions.

Lazy Posting: National Journal Liberal/Conservative Ratings

The National Journal has released their 2008 Vote Ratings. The results are really no surprise, but after the jump are the ratings for the Arizona delegation, broken up by “issue categories”. I’ll post the Senate ratings later.

Note: The ratings are percentiles, so a member having a rating of 75 would be have a more liberal voting record than three quarters of his or her collegues.

ECONOMY:

Grijalva and Pastor tied with 63 others for most liberal. Flake and Franks tied with six others for least liberal.

SOCIAL:

Grijalva and Pastor tied with 78 others for most liberal. Flake, Franks and Shadegg tied with 42 others for least liberal.
