Maricopa County Detention Officer swipes a document from an attorney's file in court

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

This outrageous story has been circulating among Arizona trial attorneys for the past several weeks, but CNN's Rick Sanchez CNN.com - Transcripts recently shined the spotlight on a Maricopa County Detention Officer swiping a document from an attorney's file in court - right in front of the judge! (sorry, the video I found was disabled).

The reporting on this story comes from HeatCity.org in Phoenix Detention officer tries to explain why he swiped attorney's file - Heat City

A Maricopa County detention officer tried to explain Friday why he and a fellow sheriff's office employee swiped a document from a defense attorney's file in a bizarre scene that was caught on courtroom videotape.

While You're At It...

The Sheriff's Office took advantage of the wave of bad news surrounding a national activist group by subpoenaing records on Thursday that Joe Arpaio believes will support his notion of a vast left-wing conspiracy operating against him.
Arpaio's attorney issued a subpoena for records from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now under the theory that local ACORN representatives were somehow involved in a lawsuit making its way through federal court alleging that Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies racially profiled Hispanic residents.
The lawsuit was filed in December 2007 and now involves a legal resident and four U.S. citizens who all ...

Joel Fox gives SCA checks to county officials today

Maricopa County Sheriff's Capt. Joel Fox today submitted to the county Elections Department copies of contribution checks made out to political-action committee SCA.
Copies of the checks should be posted online later this afternoon, said Yvonne Reed, an elections spokeswoman.
You might remember that last month, Fox revealed the names of SCA contributors. Until then, he was the only person publicly linked to the group, widely reported to stand for Sheriff's Command Association.
The group collected more than $100,000 and donated the cash to the Arizona Republican Party before the November election. The party transferred money to a second group, which paid for ads against Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Democratic ...

Joel Fox Spills the Beans on SCA Contributors

Under threat of a $315,000 fine from the Maricopa County Elections Department, Captain Joel Fox of MCSO finally stopped stonewalling and divulged the names of contributors to the Sheriff's Command Association or SCA.  Developer, former  owner of the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team, and close pal of Sheriff Joe, Steve Ellman was one of the largest contributors.  A lot of out of state money was involved, as well as payroll deductions from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.  Some of these contributions may well be illegal.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office is denying any involvement in SCA fund raising activities despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Fox Will Have to Cough Up Names of SCA Contributors

The Phoenix New Times reports that Captain Joel Fox lost his appeal today in Superior Court and it appears he will have to divulge the name of contributors to the SCA, the organization that financed a vicious smear campaign again Dan Saban when he opposed Joe Arpaio in the previous election for Maricopa County Sheriff.  Judge Houser implied that further appeals to delay the conclusion of this case will not be looked upon favorably.

"If any further proceedings are filed," Houser said, "they should be immediately consolidated into this case so there is no interim delay."

After Messing's response, Houser took a 15-minute recess before coming back to issue his bench order.

Arpaio's deputies continue asking questions

Over the past few days, Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have shown up at the homes and offices of officials with county advocacy groups and at least one county employee, Republic sources confirmed.
The deputies are asking about $10,000 that county officials paid in December to have the county's 10th floor administrative offices swept for listening devices; none were found.
Back on March 10, the Sheriff's Chief Deputy David Hendershott told the Insider that his office was going to look into the use of public money to pay for the sweep of the offices. "Ask yourself this question: If you knew a law-enforcement ...

Joe Arpaio on Twitter? Hmmmm ... we think not.

Joe Arpaio doesn't use a computer, but the Maricopa County Sheriff is apparently no stranger to Twitter.
Arpaio — or, more likely, someone using his name — started an account on Twitter, a social-networking service, and began providing updates that are so outrageous they actually resemble some of the comments that have slipped out of the controversial sheriff's mouth.
The sheriff's media-relations office denied Arpaio was twittering, adding: “we're busy enough with real stuff!!!”
Perhaps, but that “real stuff!!!” isn't as entertaining as “Arpaio's” tweets.
To wit:

“For Lent I'm giving up the inhumane treatment of prisoners that the media says ...

Saban accuses Arpaio of distorting the facts

Maricopa County Sheriff candidate Dan Saban is accusing Sheriff Joe Arpaio of misrepresenting facts to make his office look better.  Last week Arpaio appeared on John Hook’s Newsmaker Sunday FOX10 show defending the $43M the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has paid in lawsuits.
