C Street abortion ban: the revenge of "The Family"?

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Affordable Health Care for America Act was supposed to be the first time since Medicare was enacted in 1965 that health care was reformed to move the country closer to universal medical coverage for all of its citizens.

Instead, the bill was hijacked by anti-abortion activists to enact the most regressive anti-reproductive freedom of choice for women provision in the past 30 years. Apparently conservatives in both political parties don't want government run health care except forwomen so that government can dictate their reproductive health care choices. (Also to dictate all of our end-of-life decisions, aka"death panels" and Terri Schiavo government intervention).

The sordid, weird world of Sen. John Ensign

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

In an earlier post about Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC), I briefly mentioned Sen. John Ensign (R-NV). I stated that "If the investigation into the money trail of hush money and your allegations of extortion pan out, you will soon be submitting your resignation from the U.S. Senate."

Well, the investigation into the money trail of hush money and the extortion and possible blackmail of a sitting U.S. Senator are panning out. This story is no longer about sex per se. The only question now is when Sen. Ensign will be compelled to resign from office, or be removed.

Most of you are already familiar with the sordid details that the alleged "victim" of this consensual sexual affair, Cynthia Hampton.

Rude and Ruder

by David Safier
It's been quoted and blogged on many times before this. Now it's my turn. It's Al Melvin's memorable statement about Brewer on her impending veto.

“If she vetoes it, it’s only because she’s in a huff because she didn’t get her sales tax increase."

In a huff. That's so tactfully sexist of you, Al.

I'm not sure if the Captain is a Marx Bros. fan, but if not, he should know that he's stealing from the ultimate rudester. From "Duck Soup":

Melvin has nothing on his fellow Rs when it comes to rude. Read AZBlueMeanie's post below this one for examples.

I know this is a bit like an atheist quoting scripture to a religious Christian, but all these "Reagan Republicans" seem to have forgotten Reagan's Eleventh Commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.

Governor Mark Sanford says he "crossed lines" with women other than his mistress

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

This guy had better hire a good divorce attorney. He needs to SHUT UP and stop talking to the media.

Governor Mark Sanford told the Associated Press in emotional interviews on Tuesday that he "cossed lines" with a handful of other women during 20 years of marriage. SC governor says he 'crossed lines' with women other than mistress:

He acknowledged that he had casual encounters with other women while he was married but before he met Maria Belen Chapur, on trips outside the country to "blow off steam" with male friends.

"What I would say is that I've never had sex with another woman.

Gov. Sanford and the Goldwater Institute (yes, that Gov. Sanford)

In politics, there is questionable timing, bad timing and plain ol' rotten timing.
And then there's South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and his just-launched fundraising drive for the Phoenix-based Goldwater Institute. Sanford, of course, had been the focus of Where's-Waldo speculation since last Thursday, with his whereabouts unknown to state officials and gubernatorial staff and security.
Sanford's return to the Palmetto State on Wednesday brought word that he had not been hiking the Appalachian Trail, as was initially suggested by his staff, but instead had been cavorting with a mistress in Argentina.
In Arizona, meanwhile, the sordid story broke just as supporters of the ...

Gov. Mark Sanford resurfaces, admits to an extramarital affair

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Normally I refrain from commenting on the personal failings of politicians. You noticed that I did not go on about Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) recently admitting to an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer Nevada Senator Ensign Admits Affair With Former Staffer, even though this story has juicy allegations about extortion of a U.S. Senator, payment of hush money to her family members, and even a Fox News reporter allegedly covering up the story to keep it from going public. Apparently what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. Who knew?

Sen. Ensign had recently taken preliminary steps to explore a run for the White House in 2012, making a trip three weeks ago to Iowa, the first testing ground on the presidential primary calendar.
