In Memoriam: James F. McNulty, Jr.

Almost lost in the crush of news coming out of our state capitol this week was the sad news of the passing of former Congressman Jim McNulty. I did not know Jim well, but I did volunteer on his campaigns back in the early 1980s, and I saw him frequently at Democratic Party events over the years since. He was always pleasant to me with a ready smile and a quick Irish wit. He was a good and decent man dedicated to public service.

$2.15 mil on hand for Giffords as of middle of August

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson) has raised over $2.7 million and has $2.147 million on hand as of Aug. 13, according to figures released by the campaign Wednesday.

Between July 1 and the second week of August, the campaign reported raising $230,000, including donations from 500 new contributors.

$562K for Giffords in 2Q; Bee still counting

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson) raised $562,138 in the second quarter of the year, bringing her cash on hand total to almost $2.1 million, according to her campaign. Her opponent in the 8th Congressional District race, state Sen. Pres. Tim Bee (R-Tucson), will not be releasing his second quarter figures until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Giffords preps for Bee challenge

District 8 Democrat Gabby Giffords has been serving in the U.S. Congress for little more than a year, but she is already looking at a tough battle for re-election.

“Republicans will make it as tough as possible for her,” says Giffords campaign chair Michael McNulty.

Republicans have chosen a candidate to face off against Giffords: State Senate president Tim Bee.

“Bee is as strong a candidate as Republicans could field against Giffords,” McNulty says.

Bee campaign releases favorable polling

The Arizona Capitol Times is reporting on a Summit Group Poll conducted for State Sen. Tim Bee that shows Bee trailing incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords 36% - 30%. A generic ballot test, meanwhile, shows a Republican defeating a Democrat 34% to 30%.
