Who speaks for the GOP? "No One" does

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Gallup has a new poll out which asked the burning question, "Who is the main person who speaks for the Republican Party today?"

Top response: No opinion   37%

Next top response: No one 14%

That's 51% of respondents who cannot readily identify who is the main person who speaks for the Republican Party today.

Gallup had to drill down into the polling data to come up with this headline: Limbaugh, Gingrich, Cheney Seen as Speaking for GOP So that's what "RNC" stands for: Rush + Newt + Cheney = "leadership vacuum."

Let's take a look at the poll results:

Gallup analysis:

GOP Pizza Party: "New" GOP same as the "Old" GOP

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The GOP establishment's National Council for a New America held its first "listening session" last Saturday in a pizza parlor in Alexandria, Virginia. (See earlier post GOP Launches Second Rebranding In a Year) A wealthy D.C. suburb? Not venturing beyond the Beltway bubble? Baby steps, I guess.

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.) explained their visions for reviving the GOP.

The leaders received positive feedback from the crowd, which included reporters, Republican aides and their friends, but not many new ideas.

Ed McKee, the owner of Pie-Tanza, invited many of his regular customers, who sat in chairs around Romney, Cantor and Bush.

Hindsight is Romney

Watching the CPAC online the last few days has been amazing. Many of the speakers have reflected the mood of the Republican party which can be summed up in one word - MOBILIZING.

I was especially impressed with the speech delivered by former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney, who bore a striking resemblance to Ronald Reagan.

This got me doing the 20/20 is hindsight exercise and I couldn’t help but think that Romney would have been one of the only leaders able to get the country out of this mess. After all, he stepped into several crisis in the past only to stabilize and correct the problem - Winter Olympics.

EXCLUSIVE: Sean “CF” Murphy on SB1158

Russell Pearce is sponsoring SB 1158, which would put citizenship requirements on presidential candidates who run in the Arizona primary.

Well, it seems that this is another attempt by Pearce to stir the anti-immigration pot. He’ll tell moderate voters that this is about limiting the number of candidates on the ballot and prevent “voter confusion” (even though few, if any, of the dizzying number of candidates who filed last year would be ineligible to run under this statute) while at the same time winking at the mouth breathers who will see this as a way to keep immigrants in their place. Also, it probably is yet another shot in the

McCain: GOP nomination within grasp

Arizona Senator John McCain spoke to cheering supporters in Phoenix just moments ago and declared that he was confident that the Republican nomination for president was near.

“Tonight we must get used to the idea that we are the frontrunner for the Republican nomination,” he said.

“It’s fair to say that we are one step closer to the day that mothers in Arizona can tell their children that they can become President of the United States.”
