President Obama to visit Arizona on August 16

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Apparently the Obama advance team can't find Tucson or even Southern Arizona on a map. President Obama will visit Phoenix for a third time this year on August 16, as well as the Grand Canyon. Obama's 3rd Ariz. visit part of Western swing:

President Barack Obama will return to Arizona this month for the third time since taking office, underlining once more the significance the White House puts on a state he lost in the 2008 election but hopes to pick up in 2012.

Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha plan to spend the day in Arizona on Aug.

Will Walmart live up to their PR on Health Care this time?

There has been a lot of talk this week about the surprising move by Walmart to publically support President Obama’s health care reform plan, supposedly positioning themselves as a leader in the fight to bring health care to all Americans. As we mentioned in a post on our blog yesterday, this might be easier to swallow if Walmart had any history of leading by example. Instead, they usually do just the opposite.

Given Walmart’s long record of trying to build a positive reputation on ineffective work-arounds to health care coverage for employee, the recent revelations about sacrificing quality for cheap

Arizona Right to Life Condemns Obama Order to Rescind Embryonic Stem Cell Research Federal Funding Ban

President Obama continued his attack today on life-saving policies instituted by previous Administrations by rescinding President George W. Bush’s 2001 ban on the use of Federal Money to fund Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

The process of harvesting stem cells for this research kills the tiny days-old human being from whom the cells are pillaged. President Obama’s Order will allow the use of YOUR tax payer dollars to expand this “research” and further sanction the destruction of innocent human life by the Federal Government, and it places 400,000 frozen embryos in mortal danger.

Can He Deliver?

Here is a snapshot of the Drudge Report listing the new promises as outlined in President Obama’s speech tonight.

The big question in all of this is can he deliver?

I was also under the impression that the new administration was going to de-militarize? Did I misunderstand or is this President attempting to duplicate what Ronald Reagan did with the 600-ship fleet?

Now I know that the finest researchers have been working on a cure for cancer for decades so what makes President believe that a cure can be found within the next few years?

More money for the banks? Who would have imagined!

Universal education through college? Maybe I’ll finally be able to go to law school?

Universal health care? Here comes 1993 all over again!

Students at Dobson High School not thrilled with Obama’s visit

We’re grateful to the East Valley Tribune for covering this, since the protest and opposition to Obama’s visit was largely ignored by the rest of of the mainstream media. This is from a class of students at Mesa Dobson High School, where Obama spoke Wednesday. Am very proud of our high schoolers that they can see through the fawning adoration of the media. Here are some excerpts:

The students in the class were hopeful things will work out, but questioned whether Obama’s plan would actually work to dig the country out of its economic woes.

Senior Syna Daudfar took some notes during the speech and was one of the students that was the most vocally opposed to Obama’s words.

Obama's housing plan stresses stability

President Barack Obama laid out his plan to staunch the bleeding in the nation’s housing market through incentives for borrowers and lenders to return to the bargaining table to avoid foreclosures during a speech Wednesday at Dobson High School in Mesa.

Obama insisted he is not proposing a bailout of irresponsible lenders, borrowers or real estate speculators. Rather, he is attempting to stabilize the housing market by allowing responsible homeowners to revamp the terms of their mortgages so they can make their payments and avoid foreclosure, he said.

The plan will directly benefit between 7 million and 9 million homeowners by allowing them to restructure their mortgages to avoid foreclosure, according to the president.

Obama’s Speech

Got this from the White House Press Office, Obama’s speech as prepared for delivery. Also, I have uploaded their “Fact Sheet” if you’d like to look at it:

I’m here today to talk about a crisis unlike any we’ve ever known – but one that you know very well here in Mesa, and throughout the Valley. In Phoenix and its surrounding suburbs, the American Dream is being tested by a home mortgage crisis that not only threatens the stability of our economy but also the stability of families and neighborhoods. It is a crisis that strikes at the heart of the middle class: the homes in which we invest our savings, build our lives, raise our families, and plant roots in our communities.
