Pullen sees opportunity in CD1, cautions CD5 candidates against nastiness

Today Randy Pullen, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, appeared on the radio program of Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist to give his view of the political lay of the land in Arizona. During the interview, Pullen gave an upbeat picture of the Republican Party's chances to prevent Democrats from expanding the inroads they've made over the last few election cycles.

Ken Bennett won't enter the race

Citing his new position as CEO of GeoBio, a biofuel company, former State Senate President Ken Bennett told PolitickerAZ today he will not enter the race in the First Congressional District.

"It really came down to the committments I've made on the business side," said Bennett, who, after deciding against a run last September, was reconsidering the decision at the behest of local and national GOP leaders.

Hay, state GOP celebrate tax day by taking Dems to task

Update: Bee v. Giffords in Q1 even closer

As we reported this morning, State Sen. Pres. Tim Bee (R-Tucson) raised over $466,000 in the first quarter of the year - $466,092.60, to be exact. Meanwhile, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-8) took in a nearly identical $471,686.20, putting Bee about $5,600 behind.

However, what we failed to take into account was refunding. Bee actually took in $466,992.60 but refunded $900. Giffords's numbers did not reflect the $4900 she returned, giving her an adjusted total of $466,786.20.

Bee and Giffords nearly tie in Q1 totals

Name recognition, high-powered fundraisers and a motivated base came together to push State Sen. Pres. Tim Bee (R-Tucson) over the $465,000 in dollars raised between Jan. 1 and Mar. 31. According to a campaign press release, Bee starts the spring with $525,000 on hand.

It isn't easy being an uncommitted superdelegate in the Democratic Party these days.

To be a superdelegate - a Democratic Party official, member of Congress, governors or past presidents - who hasn't made up his or her mind on whether to nominate Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama at the Party's convention this summer, means having to endure endless phone calls from the candidates, affiliated Party members and press urging a decision.

Bee says Colombia trade deal won't cost Americans jobs
