Republican Born Again Deficit Virgins

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

John Perr is one of the better economics bloggers. He posted this piece at crooksandliars.com Born Again Deficit Virgins:

Everything you need to know about the descent of the conservative movement into a hypocritical caricature is illustrated by two of its proudest constituencies: Republican deficit hawks and so-called "born again virgins." Having already violated the moral strictures they claim to hold dearest, each now asks the American people to join them in pretending their sin never happened. But unlike a generation of Republican leaders who built a mountain of national debt for the United States, the secondary virgins only screwed themselves.

Caribou Barbie book signing in Tempe

Posted by AzBlueMeanIe:

I have always heard that Costco is a Labor/Democrat friendly business, despite the fact that it sells every screed from right-wing pulp fiction publishing houses at bulk discount prices.

Now it is selling Caribou Barbie -- no, not the doll -- the real-life Sarah Palin, right next to the tire department. Is this any way to run for president?

The Arizona Republic reports Sarah Palin to stop at Tempe Costco for book signing

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will sign her book on Dec. 1 at Costco in Tempe.

Palin will sign 1,000 copies of the memoir "Going Rogue: An American Life" from 11 a.

McCain camp: Palin book "revisionist and self-serving fiction"

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Politico reported on Monday McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' Well, Duh! What did you expect?

Top aides to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign hit back at Sarah Palin Friday and Saturday, calling the former vice presidential nominee’s soon-to-be-released book “revisionist and self serving” “fiction.”

Campaign manager Steve Schmidt, who emerges as Palin’s nemesis in the advance excerpts that have surfaced from her forthcoming account of the campaign, “Going Rogue,” told POLITICO Saturday that Palin's charges about him were made up.

"It's all fiction," he said.

With a laugh, the shaved-headed political operative asked: "Why is the bald guy always the villain?"

OK, that is funny.

AP fact checks Palin

by David Safier

It makes me feel slightly dirty giving Sarah Palin any more ink pixels, but reading AP do a take-down on the "facts" in Palin's new book gives me a certain joy, and I want to share it with others. I get the sense the writer had as much fun writing it as I did reading it.

Read it if you're amused by this kind of thing. I know I am.

Going Rogue

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

While I'm on the subject of full page ads in the Arizona Daily Star there is one today from NewsMax.com (a right-wing biased "news" mag that makes Faux News look like a legitimate news organization) promoting Sarah Palin's soon to be released book, "Going Rogue: an American Life," for the low, low price of $4.97 -- but wait, there's more! For this low, low price you also get the NewsMax report "Sarah Palin and the New Feminism" -- but wait, there's more! You also get a four month trial subscription to NewsMax magazine.

(Amazon.com lists the book at $20.99 - whoops! - it's already been marked down to the discount clearance bin price of $9.

SWAG Update: Early Filers for 2010

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Now that local elections are all but over for the counting in Tucson (and a possible recount in Ward 3), it's time once again to update the early filers with the Arizona Secretary of State for 2010. You can play along at home at http://www.azsos.gov/cfs/CommitteeSearch.aspx

The big news today: Terry Goddard, the state's highest-elected Democrat, filed paperwork Friday morning announcing that he is exploring a run for governor next year. Political Insider Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman and 2006 U.S. Senate candidate Jim Pederson previously announced that they would not run. Former Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano has also decided not to run

Epic Teabagger fail in NY-23

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

How do you take the textbook definition of a "safe" Republican district (a Democrat has not represented the region since 1854), a no-brainer that the Republican will win by default against token Democratic opposition, and lose the seat for the first time in 155 years? By caving in to pressure from the far-right extremist fringe Teabagger Taliban and the Mighty Wurlitzer of right-wing conservative "entertainment" personalities.

Blue Dog Democrat Bill Owens, the token opposition, won a stunning victory in the special congressional election in New York's 23rd congressional district only because the GOP Taliban and the conservative "entertainment" personalities declared civil war against GOP moderates and the GOP establishment, demanding ideological purity to conservativism - as they have defined it.

Frank Rich on GOP Stalinist Purges

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

New York Times columnist Frank Rich has more on the GOP civil war in the NY-23 special election for Congress. There will be no "winner" in this race. The big loser, however, is the Republican Party. The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York:

[P]reposterous as it sounds, the real action migrated to New York’s 23rd, a rural Congressional district abutting Canada. That this pastoral setting could become a G.O.P. killing field, attracting an all-star cast of combatants led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, William Kristol and Newt Gingrich, is a premise out of a Depression-era screwball comedy. But such farces have become the norm for the conservative movement — whether the participants are dressing up in full “tea party” drag or not.

Good news on the tuition tax credit front

by David Safier
The Catholic Tuition Organization for the Diocese of Phoenix, a School Tuition Organization that receives tuition tax credit donations and gives them out as scholarships, never used to allow donors to recommend who the money should go to. But their funding grew stagnant, so they recently decided to accept recommendations. But now they're suspending the new policy -- not ending it, just suspending it -- in light of recent stories about abuses of the recommendation system by parents, STOs and private schools. Anyone who donated money and recommended the recipient can ask for their money back.

Though the wording of this passage is confusing, it sounds like the Jewish Tuition Organization is going even further.

HEY REPUBLICAN RUBES!

Yeah, you.  Mr. and Mrs. dumbass Arizona Republican.  Did you know President Obama's health reform features death panels and that there's still a question as to whether President Obama has produced a valid birth certificate?

While most thoughtful Republicans have rejected this sort of juvenile gutter politics, you  have to hand it to the Rethuglicans in Arizona's Congressional delegation, they know their base.  And they know that nobody ever lost a primary in Arizona by underestimating the intelligence of the Arizona Republican voter.

Sen. John McCain must be running scared knowing that he will face uberwingnut Minute Man Chris Simcox in a Republican primary.
