SWAG Update: Early Filers for 2010

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Now that local elections are all but over for the counting in Tucson (and a possible recount in Ward 3), it's time once again to update the early filers with the Arizona Secretary of State for 2010. You can play along at home at http://www.azsos.gov/cfs/CommitteeSearch.aspx

The big news today: Terry Goddard, the state's highest-elected Democrat, filed paperwork Friday morning announcing that he is exploring a run for governor next year. Political Insider Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman and 2006 U.S. Senate candidate Jim Pederson previously announced that they would not run. Former Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano has also decided not to run

Epic Teabagger fail in NY-23

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

How do you take the textbook definition of a "safe" Republican district (a Democrat has not represented the region since 1854), a no-brainer that the Republican will win by default against token Democratic opposition, and lose the seat for the first time in 155 years? By caving in to pressure from the far-right extremist fringe Teabagger Taliban and the Mighty Wurlitzer of right-wing conservative "entertainment" personalities.

Blue Dog Democrat Bill Owens, the token opposition, won a stunning victory in the special congressional election in New York's 23rd congressional district only because the GOP Taliban and the conservative "entertainment" personalities declared civil war against GOP moderates and the GOP establishment, demanding ideological purity to conservativism - as they have defined it.

Frank Rich on GOP Stalinist Purges

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

New York Times columnist Frank Rich has more on the GOP civil war in the NY-23 special election for Congress. There will be no "winner" in this race. The big loser, however, is the Republican Party. The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York:

[P]reposterous as it sounds, the real action migrated to New York’s 23rd, a rural Congressional district abutting Canada. That this pastoral setting could become a G.O.P. killing field, attracting an all-star cast of combatants led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, William Kristol and Newt Gingrich, is a premise out of a Depression-era screwball comedy. But such farces have become the norm for the conservative movement — whether the participants are dressing up in full “tea party” drag or not.

Good news on the tuition tax credit front

by David Safier
The Catholic Tuition Organization for the Diocese of Phoenix, a School Tuition Organization that receives tuition tax credit donations and gives them out as scholarships, never used to allow donors to recommend who the money should go to. But their funding grew stagnant, so they recently decided to accept recommendations. But now they're suspending the new policy -- not ending it, just suspending it -- in light of recent stories about abuses of the recommendation system by parents, STOs and private schools. Anyone who donated money and recommended the recipient can ask for their money back.

Though the wording of this passage is confusing, it sounds like the Jewish Tuition Organization is going even further.

HEY REPUBLICAN RUBES!

Yeah, you.  Mr. and Mrs. dumbass Arizona Republican.  Did you know President Obama's health reform features death panels and that there's still a question as to whether President Obama has produced a valid birth certificate?

While most thoughtful Republicans have rejected this sort of juvenile gutter politics, you  have to hand it to the Rethuglicans in Arizona's Congressional delegation, they know their base.  And they know that nobody ever lost a primary in Arizona by underestimating the intelligence of the Arizona Republican voter.

Sen. John McCain must be running scared knowing that he will face uberwingnut Minute Man Chris Simcox in a Republican primary.

Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA): the “death panel” talk is “nuts”

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

I received a request from a reader about the bill that Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) sponsored to allow Medicare reimbursements to doctors for end of life consultation. It turns out he originally sponsored this bill when he was a member of the House, and it was not controversial. Think Progress » Sen. Johnny Isakson: Palin’s ‘Death Panel’ Talk Is ‘Nuts’:

In recent weeks, conservatives have attacked a small provision in the House-proposed health care legislation that would broaden Medicare to cover counseling sessions for seniors who want to consider their end-of-life choices. Last week, Sarah Palin claimed President Obama plans to institute bureaucratic “

David Brooks on health care rhetoric - Limbaugh: "that is insane"; Palin: "that's crazy"

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Conservative columnist David Brooks was a guest on NBC's Meet The Press on Sunday. As reported by crooksandliars com David Brooks: Limbaugh health care rhetoric 'insane':

Conservative columnist David Brooks thinks Rush Limbaugh has gone too far in comparing President Barack Obama to Hitler. Brooks was stunned by the comparison when he first saw it on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday. "I hadn't seen the Rush Limbaugh thing. That is insane. What he's saying is insane," said Brooks.

Brooks went on to criticize Sarah Palin for saying that health care reform would create a "death panel" to euthanize older Americans. "Again, that's crazy.

How GOP fear mongers have perverted "living wills" into euthanasia for Grandma

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

NEVER underestimate the depths to which Republicans will sink in employing their time-tested fear mongering to win at all costs. The PR firms which do their dirty work are bottom feeding sewer dwellers. (I have met many of them over the years). Frightening the elderly with death is as low as they can go.

Rachel Maddow follows up on my previous post about this GOP Astroturf campaign. Maddow addresses specifically the "living will" being perverted into "Obama death panels" by moon-bat in chief Sarah Palin and a plan to euthanize Grandma by conservative talk radio and Faux News, and even Republican members of Congress.

The Alaska Disasta's Last Day

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Sunday is the Alaska Disasta's last day in office after she just up and quit mid-term, a matter of "stategery" so that she and First Dude Todd can invade the Lower 48 and run for president in 2012. A lucrative book deal, probably with conservative pulp fiction publisher Regerny Press, and guest appearances at FAUX News (if Mike Huckabee doesn't bar the doors) are likely in her future.

As Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin prepares for the next stage of her political career, a majority of Americans hold an unfavorable view of her, and there is broad public doubt about her leadership skills and understanding of complex issues, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
