Arizona's twin embarrassments want no exit strategy for Afghanistan

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

After eight years of war, Afghanistan remains a failed state.

Bush puppet Hamid Karzai is barely the mayor of Kabul; he has no control over the Afghan countryside. Voice of America Newsreported that the Taliban have a "permanent presence" in 80 percent of Afghanistan. "Permanent presence" in a province is defined as one or more insurgent attacks - lethal and non-lethal - per week. Tabina Control Spreads in Afghanistan (September 11, 2009).

Political corruption is rampant. President Karzai's brother Ahmed Wali Karzai is a suspected player in the country’s booming illegal opium trade, and gets regular payments from the CIA. The agency pays Mr.

Update: Rape-Nuts

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Rachel Maddow Show reported Wednesday evening that the Republicans who voted against the Al Franken Amendment to the defense appropriations bill are taking heated criticism from the editors of their Red State newspapers back home. 'The Rachel Maddow Show' for Wednesday, October 21:

MADDOW: Thirty Republican senators - 30 of the 40 total Republican senators we have now cast a vote recently that has even the conservative op-ed pages of the senator's local hometown papers burning bright with outrage.

It may be the sleeper political issue of the year, the vote that will launch 1,000 campaign ads, if nothing else.

Sen. Jon Kyl's problem with female constituents

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Some of you may have seen an ad running on cable television to "call Sen. Jon Kyl and thank him..." If you are unemployed and you are desperate for your unemployment benefits to be extended by Congress, you should call Sen. Jon Kyl's office to "thank" him - he's the SOB responsible for holding up the extension of unemployment benefits in Congress. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) Holds Up Unemployment Extension:

If your unemployment ran out this week, you can thank Sen. Jon Kyl. Yes, the Republican whip objected to a quick vote that would have helped all those people. You can contact him

Arizona Daily Star publishes revisionist history, shills for GOP

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

I have been a resident of Tucson since the early 1960's. I have started each morning, for good or ill, by reading the Arizona Daily Star.

At one time, the Arizona Daily Star was an award winning newspaper with reporters and editors that demonstrated excellence in journalism. That newspaper has not existed for some time now.

There has been a precipitous decline in the quality of reporting and the opinion pages since Lee Enterprises purchased the newspaper. While the Arizona Daily Star still has a few good reporters and on occasion demonstrates flashes of its former self, on most days it appears to be in a race to the bottom to compete with the likes of Rupert Murdoch's yellow rag New York Post.

Sen. Lindsey Graham: a patronizing, condescending sexist

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is concerned that Judge Sonia Sotomayor has a judicial "temperament" problem. Are you friggin' kidding me!

Sen. Graham is the BFF of Senator John McCain (aka McNasty) who is legendary for his lack of temperament, and with his desperate selection of the unqualified Sarah Palin as his running mate, his complete lack of judgment. This is the kind of guy that Sen. Graham pals around with and he thought would make a good president. This speaks to his complete lack of judgment.

Sen. Graham was given kudos by some of the media villagers for his opening day comment that Judge Sotomayor would be confirmed unless she had a complete meltdown.

Sen. Kyl's Paris Hilton Amendment

Posted by AzBliueMeanie:

Our own "Senator Obstruction," Jon Kyl, has voted against the bank rescue bill, the federal stimulus bill, and the Obama budget resolution designed to rescue our economy from sliding into a depression (see David Safier's post on Robert Reich). Eh, just let it go!

Has your 401(k) been decimated? Have you had to cash out your IRA to meet living expenses? Are you under water on your mortgage, or worse, in foreclosure? Have you lost your job? Are you worried about losing your job?

TOUGH! Jon Kyl doesn't care about you or the cumulative effect of millions of Americans like you on the U.

Arizona's twin embarrassments score a rare hat trick

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

On Thursday, Arizona's twin embarrassments "Senator Obstruction," Jon Kyl and "Senator Sore Loser," John McCain, scored a rare hat trick on MSNBC. Kyl made David Shuster's "Hypocrisy Watch" segment on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (he's a regular pick), and McCain was Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person in The World" on Countdown (also a regular pick). The Rachel Maddow Show completed the hat trick with a piece about McCain who appears to be trying to wrest away the title of "Senator Obstruction" from Jon Kyl. (Chris Matthews, per usual, babbled on about his own convulted political theories on Hardball and had nothing of value to say.

Sen. Jon Kyl pushes back against "outrage" over AIG bonuses

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

In the past two days few public figures have defended AIG per se, but "Senator Obstruction," Jon Kyl, is pushing back against what he deems to be overstated outrage. Santelli, Sen. Kyl Push Back Against "Outrage" Over AIG Bonuses

On Monday, Sen. Jon Kyl ridiculed politicians for being quick to "demagogue" the AIG issue. And while rapping AIG for soaking up taxpayer funds before issuing bonuses, he warned -- during an appearance on Fred Thompson's radio show -- that pols like him would "just ride the horse and beat it into the ground."

"The first thing to think about is, whenever politicians start railing about other peoples' behavior -- particularly in the private market -- put your hand on your wallet and start asking questions, you know," he said.
