Joel Fox gives SCA checks to county officials today

Maricopa County Sheriff's Capt. Joel Fox today submitted to the county Elections Department copies of contribution checks made out to political-action committee SCA.
Copies of the checks should be posted online later this afternoon, said Yvonne Reed, an elections spokeswoman.
You might remember that last month, Fox revealed the names of SCA contributors. Until then, he was the only person publicly linked to the group, widely reported to stand for Sheriff's Command Association.
The group collected more than $100,000 and donated the cash to the Arizona Republican Party before the November election. The party transferred money to a second group, which paid for ads against Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Democratic ...

Sharpton to pay Arpaio a visit

The Rev. Al Sharpton's promise to make an appearance in Maricopa County to go toe-to-media-hungry-toe with Sheriff Joe Arpaio was no empty threat.
Sharpton's campaign, the National Action Network, announced on Wednesday that the New York-based activist would make an appearance in Phoenix on Friday.
The day starts with a 7:30 a.m. appearance at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in downtown Phoenix, where Sharpton will meet with community members and some who've leveled allegations of racial profiling at Arpaio and his deputies.
Sharpton will entertain the media for 30 minutes beginning at 9 a.m., but the real show will take place on the 19th floor of the Wells ...

SEIU Joins Effort to Fight AZ Anti-Migrant Bills

The budget nightmare unfolding in Arizona is taking the back seat to several pieces of nasty legislation that could only come from Russell Pearce's National Alliance-influenced brain.  Senate Bill 1280 would make it a crime to even be in the presence of an undocumented worker while SB1175 strips local governments of the ability to keep immigration enforcement where it belongs - a federal issue.

Border Action Network has been all over this lately with action alerts to put political pressure on Arizona State Legislators.  Those efforts have received a shot of adrenaline with SEIU joining the fight against these overreaching and, yes, anti-latino bills:

County officials show video of Arpaio shooting from the lip during budget presentation

Okay, we get it: Maricopa County budget officials and the Board of Supervisors are at odds with Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
There've been lawsuits and nasty-grams, investigations and the indictment of Supervisor Don Stapley.
And no time seems to be a bad time to take a shot: the sheriff threw out an inappropriate barb in a public meeting on March 24 with Arizona State University students. County officials responded Monday by showing a video clip of the remarks in the middle of the budget presentation.
During the speech, Arpaio said, "I'll tell you one thing: he (Board Chairman Max Wilson) better be careful on ...

Scandal ridden ACORN and other pro-criminal groups, attack America’s best law enforcer

COMMON SENSE

"In the following sheets, the author hath studiously avoided every thing which is personal among ourselves. Compliments as well as censure to individuals make no part thereof. The wise and the worthy need not the triumph of a pamphlet; and those whose sentiments are injudicious or unfriendly, will cease of themselves, unless too much pains is bestowed upon their conversion."

Criminal Lovers Attack Law Enforcement - Fight Back

Mention Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and one thing comes to mind, America’s toughest sheriff. Adored by those who believe in the rule of law, and despised by those for whom legality is a major inconvenience, Joe Arpaio often finds himself a lightning rod for abuse.

Deputy appealing fine for illegal contributions

Members of the "Sheriff's Command Association" didn't intend to spend its $105,000 on political campaigns last fall, says Capt. Joel Fox, the group's only known member and a high-ranking Maricopa County sheriff's deputy.

But that is just how Fox spent the money, making two donations to the Arizona Republican Party totaling that amount. The party listed the association as an individual contributor under the name "SCA."

Fox is appealing a $315,000 fine for what the Maricopa County Recorder's Office has determined were illegal contributions because of his refusal to disclose those who provided the money. The state held a hearing on Wednesday, during which Fox argued that a judge must rule on whether SCA is an illegal political committee before the county can assess any fine.
