CD 8 news

There are now 4 announced Republican candidates running for the party's nomination in 2010. This time 2 years ago we were still 6 months away from Tim Bee's announcement. The candidates are Jesse Kelly, Andy Goss, Tom Carlson, and Brian Miller. They are all new to politics but one of them, Jesse Kelly, is doing very well leveraging his early endorsement from former Congressman Duncan Hunter.

Hunter is coming to Tucson this weekend to help raise money for Kelly's campaign and the news made the front page of the Congressional Quarterly Politics web site. Not bad exposure, especial when it is free. For more info about the schedule for Hunter's visit go to the events sections of the Jesse Kelly's web site.

To Quote: Wah!

Here’s the new spin on the dissatisfaction with the state’s budget: it is all the fault of the Democrats.

This is being sold by folks like Tim Bee and John Munger. Here’s how this works: if Democratic leaders were just willing to make a deal with the Republican leaders instead of being so obstructionist, folks like Bob Burns and Kirk Adams would not have to count on the right-wing of their party to pass a budget. Yep…it is all the fault of Democrats.

I called House Assistant Democratic Leader Kyrsten Sinema and asked her what she thought of this postulation. She used a two syllable term that is a profane description for the waste of a male bovine.

It Doesn’t Totally Ruin Our Fun

Well, the RNC has elected Michael Steele their new chairman. Chip Saltzman (he of “Barack the Magic Negro” fame) didn’t even make a race of it after his support evaporated, but Katon Dawson made a good run at it, even leading on the fourth ballot.

You’d think that someone like Dawson would have made good fodder for someone like me. I mean, the guy was a member, until he wanted to run, of a whites-only country club and says that his political awakening was in opposition to civil rights laws. Steele, on the other hand, is African American. Gosh, except for the fact that he shares a name with a woman who used to be in the Bangles and the Runaways, what is a blogger to do?

Well…

He’s Mike Tyson’s ex-brother in law.

Look it up; I kid you not. Y’all have fun with that one.
