A "Tea Party" party registers in Florida

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Ben Smith reports at politico.com A Tea Party party registers in Florida:

A Florida conservative has registered an official "Tea Party" with the office of the Secretary of State, and is promising to run candidates against Republicans and Democrats in state and national races.

"The current system has become mired in the sludge of special interest money that seeks to control the leadership of both parties. It’s time for real change,” says Orlando lawyer Frederic O’Neal, the new party's chairman, who couldn't be reached immediately by phone, in a press release.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Secretary of State, Jennifer Davis, said the party had registered in August, and that its qualified candidates will appear on the ballot in the state.

Shaun McClusky pulls a Dunbar, campaign circles the drain

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Shaun McClusky is a political neophyte. Hell, he admits that he wasn't politically active and didn't even bother to vote in city elections before he was recruited by the GOP to run for city council. So I know the latest actions are being directed by the GOP "brain trust" of Bill Arnold, Bruce Ash and Jim Click. This has their brand of Roger Ailes/Lee Atwater/Karl Rove "politics of personal destruction" fingerprints all over it. The kid doesn't like it.

I received a large glossy flier from the McClusky campaign with big, bold headlines screaming that money destined for the Tucson Police Department has "disappeared" and is "missing," and that Richard Fimbres won't say what happened to it.

Tea Party Temper-Tantrum

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Rhonda Bodfield of the Arizona Daily Star has a report today about the faux outrage coming from the Tucson Tea Party over being "slandered" by the use of the term "teabagger." Potential sexual slur in release raises Tea Partiers' ire; Uhlich apologizes This is known as manufacturing a story from nothing.

Let me help you out with a little research you obviously did not do, Rhonda. It was the Tea Party Patriots and their free advertising promotions at Faux News who first used the term "teabaggers" as you can see from this report below from the Rachel Maddow Show from this past April.

The Mad Haters Tea Party

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The mad haters of the Tucson Tea Party will be holding a little soirre Saturday to compare new and creative ways of "how to hate Barack Obama even more!" at Tucson Electric Park. So much hate, so little time. (And a desicration of a cathedral of baseball.)

The teabaggers will not be drinking tea, however, but will be drinking their usual daily dose of Kool-Aid from Faux News (Judge Andrew Napolitano) and right-wing talk radio (Jim Parisi, J.D. Hayworth, James T. Harris). The first step to recovery from an addiction is to admit that you have a problem. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Update: More substance-free reporting from the Arizona Daily Star

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Did you know the City of Tucson has a city council election this year? And that early vote-by-mail balloting begins this Thursday, October 8th? Have you seen any reporting about the candidates and their stances on the issues in the Arizona Daily Star? No? That is because there hasn't been any.

The Star on Sunday demonstrates once again it's complete inability to cover local elections. Rather than inform its readers about the candidates and their stances on the issues, it published a candy-ass fluff piece by reporter Tim Steller about the Tucson Tea Party, Tea Party group seeks added momentum, pretty much already covered earlier in the week by the Star's education reporter Rhonda Bodfield in a "he said - she said" story comprised from dueling press releases from the Pima County Democratic and Republican Parties, and the Tucson Tea Party group.

More substance-free reporting from the Arizona Daily Star

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Arizona Daily Star today demonstrates once again it's complete inability to cover local politics. It assigned education reporter Rhonda Bodfield to write a "he said - she said" story from dueling press releases from the Pima County Democratic and Republican Parties, and the Tucson Tea Party group. Campaign heats up; Tea Party, Dems take off gloves I'm sure Rhonda was thrilled (she is a good reporter). I blame the lame editors and publisher of the Arizona Daily Star.

If the Star is going to write stories that write themselves from press releases, I'll be happy to send you daily copy that you can use for your reporting.

Media Advisory: Questions for GOP Tucson City Council Candidates

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

I understand that the Arizona Daily Star is finally going to get around to covering the Tucson City Council races -- well, kinda.

The Star's lame idea of covering the City Council races amounts to having reporter Tim Steller hang out with the teabaggers of Tucson Tea Party at their "Tucson’s Last Stand" shindig for the GOP Tucson City Council candidates. Blog: Are Tucson 'Tea Partiers' hype or the real deal? (The Theme is taken from Glenn Beck's use of the Alamo as a "last stand." Yeah, they were all killed or executed, Glenn. Not the imagery I think you were going for.

Opposition to Prop. 200 continues to grow

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Pima County Republican Party, the Tucson Association of Realtors, the Southern Arizona Home builders Association, and the Tucson Police Officers and Firefighters Associations are the principle sponsors of the Public Safety First Initiative (akaProp. 200) which will appear on the City of Tucson November ballot.

The initiative seeks to compel and make mandatory staffing goals for police and fire personnel that the Tucson City Council has already approved in 2006 as part of a 10-year plan. The City Council had to put that plan on hold in 2008 because of the current economic recession and steep decline in tax revenues to pay for it.
