State GOP makes video of Wiggins/pastor incident

The California Republican Party is seizing on a Democrat state senator's crude dismissal of a pastor recently with a new YouTube video that suggests the party doesn't care about state residents.

The 43-second video shows footage of State Sen. Pat Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa) and her exchange with Robert Jones, a Methodist pastor in Sacramento, during a committee hearing on global warming.

Jones said at the hearing that he feared that the fees associated with curbing global warming's effects would disproportionately harm minorities. The video has footage of Jones introducing himself, then cuts to Wiggins' interruption a few moments later: "Excuse me, but I think your arguments are bullshit."

Media reports said Wiggins later apologized for the outburst.

The video includes text that describes how long Democrats have been in the majority in the California Legislature, then states, "After years in power, it's clear Democrats don't want your opinion."

The video ends with a phone number and an encouragement for viewers to call the Democrats and tell them that's wrong. The number is for the California Democratic Party.

Wiggins, who previously served in the State Assembly, is not up for re-election this year, and occupies a seat that is considered safely Democratic.
