California Young Democrats predict big Golden State win for Obama

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION, Denver, Colo. - Representatives of the Golden State's contingent of youth voters said Monday that they're more confident than ever that Sen. Barack Obama will become the nation's next president.

Rocky Fernandez, president of California Young Democrats said Monday that the reason he believes that is that the Obama campaign was the first to offer a sustained outreach program to engage the Golden State's young voters.

"In Obama you have a candidate that's done a great job in speaking to our issues and to the things we care about," said Fernandez. "I suspect that we're going to see a surge of voters turning out for the senator. That said we have a lot of work yet ahead of us to make that happen."

And make no mistake, Fernandez knows what he's talking about. Currently, California Young Democrats boasts some 3,000 members across the state in 70 affiliate chapters. The organization represents approximately  16 percent of the entire 441-member California delegation.
