Some scratching heads over Hillary's absence at California breakfast, others just shrug

DENVER - While Monday's California Democratic Party delegation breakfast was themed to honor key members of Congress, Sen. Hillary Clinton was a no-show at the Sheraton Denver - an act that caught the eye of a few bloggers and journalists hunkered down in the giant basement ballroom where the Golden State delegation met.

That's because apparently upstairs, in another ballroom where the slightly smaller New York delegation was meeting, Clinton ducked her head in and said a few words to the assembled Empire State delegates.

California Democratic Party chair Art Torres said the winner of the California's February presidential primary was summoned away at the last minute to the Pepsi Center to smooth out some technical wrinkles having to do primetime speech she is due to deliver tonight.

While some in the audience took Clinton's absence as a slight, most just shrugged and waited for Torres to bring up the next Golden State Democratic speaker during the breakfast program, which he did with little further interruption.
