California delegation events subject to change amid Gustav concerns

MINNEAPOLIS -- Events for the California delegation to this week's Republican National Convention are scheduled to go on as planned Sunday evening and Monday morning, but are subject to change as events surrounding Hurricane Gustav warrant.

A spokesman at the delegation's press office noted that with Monday's convention events at the Xcel Energy Center scaled back Sunday to just a brief meeting, the schedule of speakers and other events for succeeding days is also likely to change.

A delegation welcome at the Sheraton Bloomington/Minneapolis South hotel tonight is scheduled to still happen, as is a "welcome" breakfast event Monday morning.

Both Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) were scheduled to speak at Monday's convention floor session.

However, Schwarzenegger said last week that he wouldn't attend the convention unless California had a budget, which seemed unlikely to happen soon.

Other California GOP convention attendees scheduled to speak later in the week include former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Martin, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.
