Brown said McClintock site plagarized his veterans info

The campaign for congressional candidate Charlie Brown said opponent Tom McClintock's new website for veterans stole information for a similar site Brown has.

Campaign manager Todd Stenhouse said that not only did a list of resources on the site exactly match what was on Brown's site, but one link that was broken on Brown's site had the same problem on McClintock's site.

When visitors clicked on the "AmVets" link on McClintock's site, Stenhouse said, the broken address took visitor to a site with an address from Charlie Brown's site, in what Stenhouse called "a smoking gun."

"Everything he's learned about veterans and the military, he's apparently learned from Charlie Brown," Stenhouse said, referring to Brown's criticism of McClintock, a state senator, for voting against legislation related to veterans. McClintock established the veterans' site late last week.

"The contrast couldn't be more striking," Stenhouse said, noting that Brown received endorsements within the last week from several veterans both inside and outside the 4th Congressional District. Brown, a Democrat from Roseville, is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force.

The link was apparently fixed Monday, as it no longer shows an error message or has any apparent connection to Brown's site.

Bill George, a spokesman for McClintock's campaign, said Stenhouse's claims are untrue.

"We did not plagiarize their site," George said. "It's a very foolish type of thing they're talking about."

Of whether any link on McClintock's site ever referred to Brown's site, George said, "I don't think we ever experienced it."

McClintock's campaign established a second site last week dedicated to what it called Brown's evasive statements on the issues.

That site compares the view of Brown and McClintock, a Republican from Southern California who would move to the district if he wins. It also has what McClintock's campaign termed views Brown holds that are out of touch with the district.
