Anti-11 group calls pro-11 ad laughable and misleading

The new television ad supporting Proposition 11 doesn't pass the laugh test, according to Paul Hefner, a spokesman for the anti-11 group Citizens for Accountability.

Hefner said that the ad, which paints politicians as being against the measure, conveniently ignores Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the other politicians who favor the measure.

That list includes former Gov. Gray Davis, former state Senate Republican Leader Jim Brulte (R-Rancho Cucamonga) and former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg (D-Los Angeles), Hefner pointed out.

"Backers of the Governor's latest redistricting scheme have figured out that voters would never support their convoluted, confusing and unfair initiative on the merits - so they're playing hide the ball," Hefner said in an e-mail to PolitickerCA.com. "They're trying to hide Prop. 11's bizarre and complicated process for choosing the redistricting commission.

"They're trying to hide the fact that Prop. 11 lets just 14 people make decisions for the entire state, and unfairly leaves most communities with no representation at all when lines are drawn," he said.

Hefner added that Citizens for Accountability will soon release their own ads in opposition to Proposition 11.
