CRP chair blames "liberal blog" for racist cartoon

Ron Nehring, chair of the California Republican Party, released a statement Monday drawing attention to a "liberal blogger" who claimed to be the author of the racist cartoon of "Obama Bucks" that wound up in the October newsletter of the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated.

The anonymous author of the blog, titled "Please God No," posted the drawing in late May, accompanied by a satirical article about a fake Obama program. "It was intended to poke fun at the unrealistic fears and agenda of racism that a fringe element of Republicans strongly embrace," explained the author in a blog post on Monday. "This image was created to take to task a minority of Republicans that are racist and paranoid about someone with a different color."

Nehring jumped on the news that the source of the cartoon was actually a left-leaning blog.

"As we learn about the origins in a liberal blog of racist, incendiary cartoon depictions of Barack Obama, it should be reiterated that the California Republican Party strongly condemns the use of any such imagery," Nehring said in a statement. "Whether intended as satire or just plain bigotry and regardless of the end of the political spectrum from which they originate, these images should not be tolerated."

Nehring then called on California Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres "and his fellow Democrat leaders to stand with us in issuing a joint statement condemning these depictions and the message of racism and intolerance they send."
