McCloskey, former Republican congressman, endorses Cook for CA-46

Former Republican Congressman Pete McCloskey has endorsed Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook for California's 46th Congressional District. McCloskey served in the U.S. House for 16 years from 1967-83, representing most of San Mateo County. He ran for the Republican nomination against Richard Nixon in 1972, and lost a bid for the U.S. Senate in 1982. He became a Democrat in 2007 after 58 years of Republican party membership.

Cook is fighting an uphill battle to unseat U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach), a nine-term incumbent.
