TV station reports package with white powder at congressman's office

An envelope containing white powder with a label saying it was anthrax has been sent to U.S. Rep. George Radanovich's (R-Mariposa) Modesto district office, according to a Sacramento TV station.

KCRA.com, the station's Web site, reported that two women who worked in the office were taken to a local hospital after opening the suspicious package this morning, though they had not reported any ill health effects.

According to a fire official quoted in the story, the package included a CD and the envelope with a label that said "anthrax" or "biohazard." The station reported that the envelope contained white powder.

The Modesto Bee reported that the office was evacuated at about 10 a.m., after the package was discovered.

The Bee and KCRA reported that the package will be turned over to the FBI for investigation and analysis.

Radanovich, who represents the 19th Congressional District, was first elected in 1994. He does not have a Democratic opponent for re-election this year. He did not appear to be at the office at the time of the incident.
