FBI: Package at Radanovich's office looks like hoax

Suspicious packages delivered to a district office of U.S.  Rep. George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) and a handful of media outlets across the country appear to be a hoax, according to the FBI.

The packages, which included a CD with Colin Powell's image on it and a small sugar-packet sized container that was labeled "anthrax sample," don't appear to be an act of terrorism, said Sacramento-based FBI agent Steve Dupre.

"We're trying to figure out who's responsible, and I'm hopeful that will happen today," Dupre said. "It's not really much of a story."

Dupre said the FBI has identified seven such packages so far, sent to Radanovich's Modesto office as well as the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Charlotte Observer and at least two TV stations in Sacramento, among other places.

All tests on the substance in the package have come back negative for any possible toxicity, Dupre said. Agents have listened to the included CD, but Dupre said he had not heard what was recorded on it.
