Durston airs new commercial in last days of campaign

An emergency room colleague of Bill Durston makes the case for the Democratic candidate in a new commercial from Durston's 3rd Congressional District campaign.

Teresa Jones, a nurse who's worked with emergency room doctor Durston for 17 years, describes in the commercial how Durston works diligently to diagnose problems in patients and helps make them better.

"And Dr. Durston will find the problem, and Dr. Durston will fix the problem ... and I could see Dr. Durston playing a huge role in fixing the problems that we see in Washington D.C.," Jones says in the 30-second commercial that will air during the campaign's final days. "Dr. Durston would be the change that we need for our country."

A press release from Durston's campaign noted that Durston also once diagnosed a syndrome Jones had, and later referred her to proper medical care, based on her description of her symptoms.

When Jones' health-maintenance organization initially didn't want to pay for the kind of surgery Jones needed to correct the problem, Durston lobbied the group on her behalf and offered to pay for the surgery if it wouldn't, according to the release.

"He doesn't gain anything for it, he doesn't get paid extra to go to bat for people," Jones said in release. "He just does it because he feels it's the right thing to do."

The campaign for Durston's opponent, U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Gold River), said it had no comment on the ad.
