Buchanan campaign feeling good on Election Day

Optimism was the topic in Assembly District 15 Tuesday morning, as the campaign manager for Democratic candidate Joan Buchanan described final efforts to get supporters to the polls.

"We've got an army of volunteers out walking and talking to people, and we've got phone banks calling people too," said Jeff Gozzo.

Though much of Northern California saw rainy weather over the last few days before the election, Gozzo said that didn't slow any campaign volunteers.

"We're feeling very good about where we're at," he said. "It's just a matter of getting the voters out."

Buchanan is running against Republican Abram Wilson in one of the more closely watched Assembly races in the state, with Democrats believing they can replace termed-out Assemblyman Guy Houston (R-Dublin) with one of their own.

After polls close, Gozzo said, Buchanan and her supporters will convene to an Election Night party in Alamo, where Buchanan is from.

Gozzo would not say whether he expects a late night of ballot-count watching, only that he's feeling upbeat on Election Day.

Registration in the 15th favors Democrats, though that registration only switched the party's way in the last two years.
