SF District Attorney Kamala Harris to announce she will run for state Attorney General in 2010

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris is expected to announce Wednesday that she will be a candidate for state Attorney General in 2010.

But in speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle late Tuesday, the 44-year-old Harris, now in her second term as District Attorney, cautioned that she would reverse course if current Attorney General Jerry Brown decides not to run for governor in 2010.

Brown's decision to run for governor in turn is dependent on whether U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein opts to leave the Senate and enter the 2010 race to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I will not run against Jerry Brown," Harris said in the newspaper's report.
