Percentages on Proposition 11 stay same

Vote counts for redistricting reform measure Proposition 11 stayed fairly steady late Thursday, with the measure still passing by a percentage of 50.8 to 49.2 percent against.

About 153,000 votes separated the yes and no totals, with thousands of provisional and vote-by-mail ballots still to be counted statewide.

Yes on Prop. 11 had 5,356,201 votes to 5,202,721 votes against it as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

The measure only needs a simple majority to pass. If approved, Prop. 11 would create a 14-member citizen commission to redraw state political boundaries - though not U.S. House of Representative districts in California - after the 2010 U.S. Census.

Government reform groups and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger supported the measure, while the state Democratic party and some affiliated labor and ethnic groups opposed it.
