Strickland's lead grows in SD-19

Republican Tony Strickland has built a substantial lead over Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson in the still-undecided battle for the 19th state Senate District.

Election night ended with Jackson clinging to a 108 vote lead over Strickland. Since then, however, Strickland has surged ahead by over 2,250 votes.

Strickland's lead has increased significantly over the last few days. Just last Friday, Strickland led Jackson by about 1,500 votes.

The reasons for Strickland's surge are twofold: not only do mail-in voters historically trend Republican, but most of the uncounted ballots came from Ventura County, where Strickland's support is strongest.

Almost all of the mail-in ballots from the 19th district have been counted, although there are still thousands of uncounted provisional ballots in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties.
