BEVERLY HILLS - Although he has denied any interest in a post at the Department of Energy in the administration of President-elect Barack Obama, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger showed Wednesday that he and Obama share similar views on how to combat global warming.
At his Global Climate Summit, Schwarzenegger joined 26 global leaders in signing an agreement that calls on increased cooperation between all nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, putting him squarely in line with Obama's call for global engagement on the issue of climate change.
"By joining forces with partners from around the world, we will make the tough decisions to restore our planet's health," Schwarzenegger said. "If we work together, I'm absolutely convinced that we can accomplish [anything]."
"There is an urgency here, and we want to move the agenda forward as quickly as possible," Schwarzenegger added.
After the summit, Schwarzenegger told reporters that he was happily surprised by Obama's video-message to the summit that was beamed in Tuesday, in which the president-elect reaffirmed his commitment to enacting a cap on carbon emissions and increasing investment in green technology.
"Now we can inspire other nations and other states to go in the same direction," Schwarzenegger said.
