In CA-04, McClintock lead now at 592 votes over Brown

A slight bump in counted ballots boosted State Sen. Tom McClintock's showing in the 4th Congressional District race Wednesday, to a lead of 592 votes at 4:48 p.m. over Democrat Charlie Brown.

McClintock  (R-Thousand Oaks) had 170,125 votes to 169,533 for Brown, from Roseville. The percentages in the race remained unchanged, at 50.1 percent for McClintock to 49.9 percent for Brown.

Neither candidate has declared victory or conceded defeat, though McClintock told supporters in an e-mail early Wednesday that with the vote count nearly finished in Brown-leaning Nevada County, "the fat lady hasn't begun singing yet, but she's on stage and appears to be wearing a McClintock button."

The message said that most of the remaining votes to be counted were in counties that McClintock carried on Nov. 4.

It was unclear how many provisional and vote-by-mail ballots were still outstanding Wednesday.
