Whitman not interested in Yahoo! job

Despite chatter by Silicon Valley gossip mongers that Meg Whitman could be a contender to take over struggling Internet company Yahoo!, a political adviser to the former EBay CEO said it's just that: chatter.

According to the adviser, Whitman is not seeking or interested in the Yahoo! position, which opened up when current CEO Jerry Yang announced earlier this week that he would resign as soon as a replacement was found.

Whitman has no interest in returning to the business world of Silicon Valley, according to the adviser. An adviser to and co-chair of U.S. Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, Whitman is thought by many to be a likely 2010 gubernatorial candidate in California.
