Becerra meets with Obama in Chicago to discuss Trade Representative job

U.S. Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles), who has reportedly been offered the post of U.S. Trade Representative in President-elect Barack Obama's Administration, is meeting with Obama in Chicago Thursday to discuss the job, according to the Washington Post.

Reports first surfaced earlier this week that Becerra, an eight-term congressman from the 31st Congressional District, had been offered the job, though nothing is official yet.

Becerra, a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), recently won an intra-party battle for vice chair of the Democratic Caucus.

If he does join the Obama Administration, Becerra would have to give up that powerful position in the House and relinquish his safe-Democratic seat in the wealthy Los Angeles district.
