Lieu forms exploratory committee for Attorney General in 2010

Assemblyman Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) filed paperwork this week to run for California Attorney General in 2010.

Lieu is the third Democrat to make the move, joining San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris and former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla.

Current Attorney General Jerry Brown could still run for re-election if he decides against running for governor.

RNC member Shawn Steel wants next party chair to be a 'superstar'

Shawn Steel, one of three Republican National Committee members from California, is looking for a "superstar" to be the face of the party as the next RNC chair.

"I'm looking for a superstar that can go on T.V. or radio and put a couple of sentences together and make an effective, immediate presence, not somebody who has to be trained and tested," Steel, who will vote for the next RNC chair in January, told PolitickerCA.com.

While experience in front of the camera is important, it is hardly the only requirement, Steel said.

In becoming ranking GOP member on House Oversight, Issa issues warning to Democrats

The House Republican Steering Committee Wednesday made U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista) the ranking Republican on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is tasked with keeping tabs on fraud and abuse of power within federal agencies.

“I look forward to leading committee Republicans and working with my Democratic colleagues in helping the new Administration of President Barack Obama root out waste, fraud, and abuse in the Federal government,” Issa said in a statement.

Poizner continues to rack up Republican endorsements

Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced another slew of Republican endorsements Thursday in his campaign for the 2010 Republican nomination for governor.

The list of endorsements includes state Senators Dennis Hollingsworth (R-Murrieta) and Mimi Walters (R-Laguna Niguel) and state Assemblymembers Mike Duvall (R-Yorba Linda), Martin Garrick (R-Carlsbad), Diane Harkey (R-Dana Point) and Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber).

L.A. Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley heads to Obama administration

Nancy Sutley, Los Angeles deputy mayor for energy and environment, will chair President-elect Barack Obama's Council on Environmental Quality, according to multiple news reports.

Sutley has played a big role helping Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa retrofit hundreds of city buildings to make them more energy efficient and imposing stricter environmental standards on new commercial buildings.

Following crash, Hunter calls for maintenance records Marine fighter jets

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-San Diego), the senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, has asked the Marine Corps to release all maintenance records of its F/A-18D Hornet fighter jets after one crashed into a San Diego neighborhood Monday, killing four members of a young family.

The crash was apparently caused by "power failure" and was likely unrelated to last month's discovery of cracks on the wings of more than a dozen aircraft at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

L.A. County District Attorney Cooley declines to talk about future run for attorney general

Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has declined to speak with PolitickerCA.com about a potential run for state attorney general in 2010.

Following up on rumors that Cooley was thinking about a run for statewide office, PolitickerCA.com made an initial interview request on Friday.

Cooley's representation finally told PolitickerCA.com Tuesday that he will not talk about a future run for attorney general, not now and not ever.

L.A. Rep. Hilda Solis says Becerra's replacement should be Latino

U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Los Angeles) says fellow Rep. Xavier Becerra's (D-Los Angeles) replacement for vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus should be Latino, if Becerra accepts a job in President-elect Barack Obama's Aministration.
