Wilson says he'll challenge Buchanan in AD 15 in 2010

San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson said he'll take another shot at the 15th Assembly District seat in 2010, adding that he was convinced during the fall campaign against Assemblywoman-elect Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo) that she won't be a good representative for the district.

Wilson, a Republican, said the message he hears from constituents about tough economic times isn't being heard in Sacramento.

State GOP checking into mysterious Election Day robocall

A Republican political consultant said he and others are still investigating a mysterious robocall received on Election Day that encouraged GOP party members to skip voting because the presidential race was all but decided.

Tim Clark, who worked with 10th Assembly District candidate Jack Sieglock and others, said that while the call didn't mention any local candidates, it appeared to be directed at Republican voters in contested state legislative districts.

Buchanan hopes to help on state budget

Assemblywoman-elect Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo) said she's focusing on putting together her legislative team after winning the hotly contested 15th Assembly District Tuesday.

Buchanan, who said she'd received a concession call from Republican opponent Abram Wilson on Wednesday morning, said the 52.9-47.1 victory could be attributed to a strong campaign in all areas.

"I had a great campaign manager, great fundraising, a great consultant, a great field operation," she said.

Buchanan leading in AD 15 race over Wilson

Democrat Joan Buchanan appeared to have won Assembly District 15 by about 10,000 votes early Wednesday, but there was no official concession yet from the campaign of Republican Abram Wilson.

With 100 percent of the precincts counted, Buchanan had 99,833, or 52.9 percent of the vote, to 89,013, or 47.1 percent, for Wilson.

Matthew Del Carlo, Wilson's campaign manager, expressed hope earlier that the numbers could still move his candidate's way because Contra Costa County, where Wilson is mayor of San Ramon, had yet to be counted.

Voters not going party-line in AD 15, Wilson campaign says

Campaign workers for Abram Wilson's 15th Assembly District push are encouraged by voters who don't seem predisposed to a strict party line vote, said Wilson campaign manager Matthew Del Carlo Tuesday.

Though there are a number of issues driving voters of all kinds to the polls, he said, some Democratic voters have nonetheless told phone bank operators that they'll cross party lines to vote for Republican Wilson, Del Carlo said.

"I think that's a testament to who Abram Wilson is and how he's worked across the aisle," he said.

Buchanan campaign feeling good on Election Day

Optimism was the topic in Assembly District 15 Tuesday morning, as the campaign manager for Democratic candidate Joan Buchanan described final efforts to get supporters to the polls.

"We've got an army of volunteers out walking and talking to people, and we've got phone banks calling people too," said Jeff Gozzo.

Though much of Northern California saw rainy weather over the last few days before the election, Gozzo said that didn't slow any campaign volunteers.

That's in addition to $12 million spent in the primary election earlier this year. Six races, including three Assembly races in Northern California, each had more than $1 million in independent expenditures this fall.
