Prison guards union donates $1 million to defeat drug offender ballot measure

Opponents of Prop. 5, the drug offender law reform ballot measure, received a sizeable injection of money this week when the powerful California prison guard's union donated $1 million toward efforts to defeat the initiative.

Records filed with the Secretary of State's office show the 30,000-member strong California Correctional Peace Officers Association made the donation on Wednesday.

Secretary of State's office rejects prison guard union's gubernatorial recall form

A lawyer for Secretary of State Debra Bowen rejected on Tuesday the proposed petition forms the state's prison guard union wanted to begin circulating in its announced attempt at recalling Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from office.

Robbie Anderson, elections counsel for the Secretary of State's office, told California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) President Mike Jimenez in a letter that the petition form was rejected in part because it did not contain Schwarzenegger's response to the recall as required by California law.

Spokesman for state prison guard union's Schwarzenegger recall campaign arrested on suspicion of DUI

Lance Corcoran, the spokesman for the state prison guards union, was arrested Monday night by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Corcoran, 44, the voice behind the California Correctional Peace Officers Association's recently announced drive to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, was taken into custody around 7:20 p.m., CHP Valley Division Chief Mike Champion told the Lodi News-Sentinel in this story.

Field Poll suggests gubernatorial recall attempt may be DOA

An effort by California's prison guard union to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger may be off to a bad start according to a Field Poll released Tuesday.

The survey of 1,008 registered voters found the recall - should it be qualified for the ballot -- to be opposed by a greater than two to one margin, 63 percent to 29 percent.

Prison guard union files recall paperwork with governor

Prison guards union confirms Schwarzenegger recall effort

SACRAMENTO - California's prison guard union decided officially late Monday to attempt to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from office.
