Lee named chairwoman-elect of Congressional Black Caucus

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee was named chairwoman-elect of the Congressional Black Caucus on Wednesday.

Lee (D-Oakland) has served as a member of the caucus' leadership team for the past six years, first as whip and currently as first vice chair.

During a press conference Lee praised the leadership of outgoing CBC Chairwoman Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick and others who have served in the caucus.

Oakland's Barbara Lee seeking election as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus

[img_assist|nid=2445|title=Congresswoman Barbara Lee|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=175|height=216]The Congressional newspaper the Hill reported Thursday that Congresswoman Barbara Lee may be the next chair of the influential Congressional Black Caucus for the 111th Congress.

The vote on the position will not take place until after the Nov. 4 election but several officials are saying the Oakland Democrat will not likely encounter any competition for the post.
