Following crash, Hunter calls for maintenance records Marine fighter jets

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-San Diego), the senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, has asked the Marine Corps to release all maintenance records of its F/A-18D Hornet fighter jets after one crashed into a San Diego neighborhood Monday, killing four members of a young family.

The crash was apparently caused by "power failure" and was likely unrelated to last month's discovery of cracks on the wings of more than a dozen aircraft at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Five Golden State members of Congress make it onto 'Most Corrupt' list

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story mistakenly included the name of Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-San Diego) on the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics "Most Corrupt" list. Hunter was named to the 2007 list but not the 2008 list. We regret the error.

The Washington-based watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, named five Golden State U.S. Representatives to its infamous annual list of the most corrupt members of Congress on Wednesday.

San Diego congressman denied chance to hunt for wascally wildebeests in Chad

In a move that would make most press secretaries want to fling themselves off tall buildings, a California Congressman said this week that he wanted to help the refugees pouring into Chad from war-torn Darfur by going out and doing a little big game hunting.

There were just a few problems with U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter's announced desire to shoot a wildebeest, cure its meat and then hand out the tasty morsels to the starving Darfurians at a refugee camp.

The first and foremost issue for Hunter is that there are no wildebeests in Chad.

Lumpkin passes $150K, wins Democratic Party endorsement

Democrat Mike Lumpkin, running for the District 52 House seat that Republican Duncan Hunter Sr. is vacating, has raised in the vicinity of $75,000 - $80,000 in the first quarter, with over $150,000 raised to date, says campaign manager Chris Young.

“We had a very good quarter,” says Young, who added that “we’d always like to have more.”

Lumpkin, a retired Navy officer, raised $78,000 in the previous quarter. During that period of time he was displaced by the wildfires that ravaged the area.
