California: Fabian Nunez

Arnold fought for right to suspend AB 32 if economy was distressed. Now, with state unemployment at 70-year high, he mocks the idea. Insert profanity here.

Fabian Núñez For State Senate (SD-22)?

The former speaker of the Assembly hasn't actually been gone all that long, and it was always anticipated that he would make a run at the State Senate in 2010. Fabian Núñez has filed papers to run for the SD-22 seat currently held by Gil Cedillo - a seat that might open up even sooner if Cedillo wins a special election to replace Hilda Solis in the Congress:
This week, he filed paperwork to fill the seat of termed-out Sen. Gil Cedillo in 2010. Cedillo's seat could be vacated even sooner, as the Los Angeles Democrat is running for Congress to replace Rep.

Fabian Nuñez files for state Senate

Former Speaker Fabian Nunez, who termed out of the state Assembly last fall, has filed paperwork to make a Sacramento comeback as a state senator.

Nunez, 42, was the longest serving speaker of the term limits era and developed a close relationship with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as they teamed together in 2006 to pass landmark global warming legislation, a hike in the minimum wage and a prescription drug package.

In 2008, Nunez pushed a ballot measure, Proposition 93, to extend his and other incumbent lawmakers' terms in office. Voters defeated the initiative at the polls.

This week, he filed paperwork to fill the seat of termed-out Sen.

Nunez fund gets $600,000 donation

A campaign fund controlled by Assembly Speaker Emeritus Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) received a donation of over $600,000 last week from a voter registration fund.

Nunez, who is termed out at the end of the year, controls the Committee to Protect California's Future, which was the primary campaign fund for the failed term-limits reform measure Proposition 93 earlier this year.

The money came from Voter Registration 2008, a fund controlled typically by the Assembly Speaker, in this case Karen Bass of Los Angeles, who replaced Nunez earlier this year.
